Read for B&N July 2005 book. This is basically a book about choices and how no one can make them for anyone else. It’s also a bit about assumptions and looking beneath surface impressions for the truth. In this story, the heroine is about to make a cross country trip west on Route 66 with an elderly friend when the friend has a heart attack. The hero—the friend’s nephew, an uptight doctor—comes to make his aunt, the woman who raised him, take better care of herself. Except the old lady has taken off on her own, leaving hero & heroine to chase after her. Turns out Auntie has an errand she didn’t tell anybody about, and it gets complicated enough to bring about a shoot-out at the Big Texan Steak Ranch & Motel (72 oz. Steak dinner free, if eaten in an hour) An ok read with some interesting characters; but I can't help but wonder why the author felt it was necessary to turn into an Ellora's Cave author when it came to the love scenes. Heroine was sweet; h/h attraction was deep and loving; sex didn't need to be raunchy. ( )
