Not wanting to be sent to boarding school, she slips out and finds clever ways to disguise herself. Enola finds unique ways of taking care of herself with her many disguises which allows her to help solve mysteries for people. She often finds herself involved in the same cases as her brother Sherlock.
In 1889, Dr Watson seeks Enola's assistance when Sherlock becomes depressed, and lacking interest in working his cases. This installment of the series was published more than a decade after the previous installment, The Case of the Gypsy Good-Bye, likely to coincide with the Netflix adaptation of the books. It’s a fun adventure with Sherlock and Enola teaming up to solve a mystery, although it’s more like Enola leaps in to solve the mystery and Sherlock tags along to make sure she stays out of trouble! I enjoyed this book very much and read it in a day. I’d recommend this series to its target audience for sure, but even adults would have fun reading this series. ( )
Enola is back! Hooray! Even if the netflix series did nothing else, another installment of the book series would be worth it. She's just as strong and winning a heroine as ever, even when her plans go dreadfully awry -- and they certainly go awry in this book. I like that she is starting to work more directly with Sherlock; I like even better that she does it entirely on her own terms. Glad to see some more friends coming into the storyline, as Enola's isolation was always one of the things that made me worry for her.
This book tackles one of the truly appalling things that can happen when men (or anyone) have all the power in a society -- the involuntary commitment of women to insane asylums in order to get them out of the way. Despicable, heartrending, and a terrible reminder of what people can do to each other.
