It's impossible to live in this world without admitting that now, more so than ever, humanity is in desperate need of guidance and wisdom. It is crucial that society as a whole receives help before things go from bad to worse. In Search of Wisdom is an attempt to wake up it's readers to this fact, and guide us through the process of learning what wisdom truly is and how to go about obtaining it. How do we fix the mess we've made of our lives and each other?

As it happens, the answers we seek have already been provided and are just waiting for us to admit that we need help and humble ourselves before God, open our bibles, and turn to the book of Proverbs and study, ask questions, absorb the words and messages so we may understand and begin to walk the path that leads us to where we want to be.

The study of Proverbs is built upon seven foundational principles that are outlined in the Introduction to In Search of Wisdom. These pillars are as follows: Understanding, Prudence, Knowledge Discretion, Discernment and The Fear Of The Lord. Grasping an understanding of each of these words / principles is foundational to understanding the book of Proverbs. Each chapter of this book is dedicated to one pillar, citing specific verses with context to aid in the understanding of each principle which is great especially if you're relatively new to the study.. Meyer provides some of her interpretation and a few words of her own.

Personally, Proverbs is my go to section for comfort, strength, and reminders that God has a plan and will protect us if we are truly working towards following Him and worshipping Him through our lives. With that in mind I will say I was very excited to read through this book and had high hopes from the start. Whether or not those expectations were meant really depends on what it is you're looking for.

If you're looking for a collection of the main pillars of Proverbs as a reminder for yourself that you can carry everywhere and pull out when opening your Bible is not an option, then this book is great because that's really all it is. If you're looking for in-depth study and wonderfully crafted advice or anything like that, this book isn't for you. Honestly the greatness of this book is the verses that are pulled from The Bible. when it comes to the writing in between there isn't anything that stood out or was profound by any means. It just sort of fell flat and you're better off turning to another book on the study of Proverbs for further aid.

Come explore the book of Proverbs in a new way with Joyce Meyer. She has written an account about each chapter of Proverbs, and recommends you read the corresponding chapter in the Bible before reading each one of hers.

Joyce examines every verse, discussing what each one means. She adds her opinions along with examples from her own life that illustrate some of the situations found there. Those things bring insight to the book, and help to comprehend the full meaning of the verses.

Some nuggets of gold include that the most important things in life are faith and trusting God. In our walk with the Lord, we must remember to have patience. That is because we will not always understand why things may, or may not, happen.

We must rely on God to take complete care of things, even when it seems like He is not. Trust God, even when we do not grasp how circumstances can work out. We will never have total knowledge of everything.

Remember Isaiah 55:9, "Just as the heavens are higher than the earth, God's thoughts and God's ways are higher than yours," and 1 Corinthians 13:12, "Now we see things imperfectly, like puzzling reflections in a mirror..."

The author has written a work that will open your eyes to the knowledge and treasure to be found in the words of Proverbs. I recommend this 5-star book to anyone who wants to get more out of reading this book!
