Ladataan... Helmistä on vain harmia (1950)– tekijä: Raymond Chandler![]() - Ei tämänhetkisiä Keskustelu-viestiketjuja tästä kirjasta. It's always a trip reading Chandler, and this little collection doesn't disappoint. ( ![]() *Partial spoilers ahead* Three novellas from Chandler's pulp days, plus his celebrated essay "The Simple Art of Murder". The highlight is "The King in Yellow", in which Steve Grayce--house dick at the Carlton Hotel--attempts to solve the murder of jazz trumpet player King Leopardi. Of American detective fiction's holy trinity (Dashiell Hammett, Chandler and Ross Macdonald), it is Chandler whose writing had the greatest spiritual weight, the most refined and palpable sense of melancholy: "It was past one and the Carlton was two thirds residential. In the main lobby, down three shallow steps, lamps were dimmed and the night porter had finished tidying up. The place was deserted--a wide space of dim furniture, rich carpet. Faintly in the distance a radio sounded." This is the muted, twilit backdrop against which Chandler set his action, and "The King in Yellow" is a prime example of what he did so well.
