In this second book about Soviet detective Porfiry Rostnikov we find him investigating the death of an infamous American, as well as a terrorist plot, his work interwoven with both petty and not so petty criminal elements. I love the characters, and the author's ability to submerge the reader into Cold War Moscow. Recommended. I just love Inspector Rostnikov series! Each one is great. There is always a good plot, fast-paced but at the same time slow enough to notice the nuances of Soviet life (in the early 1980s in this instance). Inspector Rostnikov has a double challenge as usual: investigating crime and fighting off the suspicions KGB that often hinder his investigations. Stuart Kaminsky has a good knowledge of that part of the world, but it often amuses me why he chooses to invent some Russian names that don't sound like Russian. But that might just be his secret. I hope he continues this series. Because they reflect how much Russia has changed lately (some of it to the good, some to the bad...). näyttää 3/3 ei arvosteluja | lisää arvostelu

I think it may take a little work getting used to this series. This one was easier for me to follow than the first one; I think I knew more what to watch out for, and I got to know the characters better. ( )
