Paige Asher likes her men the way she likes her coffee: hot, slightly sweet, and only to-go.

The hot friend-of-a-friend she had a scorching single night with was just about perfectâ??tall, rugged, with a sexy drawl...and on the road out of town by six a.m. the next morning. Long before her mom could start picking out wedding flowers.

But now she can't stop thinking about the Louisiana boy. His texts make her smile and she suddenly has a craving for gumbo all the time...hot and spicy and far from home.

Mitch Landry had no idea Iowa would be so hospitable to a visitor. He knew the Midwest had a reputation for friendliness but his welcome giftâ??a sassy, sweet blond who is as no-strings-attached as he isâ??was a dream come true six months ago.

But why is he still texting her? And why did he jump at the chance to come back to Iowa? And why is he so annoyed by her phobia to commitment this time? And why is he pretty sure leaving Paige this time is going to be one of the hardest things he's ever done?

Damn, is this what falling in love feels like?

Oh, fu...fudge.

A great intro to Paige and Mitch’s story
4 stars

First things first - this book is a prequel to Paige and Mitch’s full story. While it ends on an upbeat note, there is still story to be told so it’s not a HEA. Paige and Mitch get their full story and HEA in Four Weddings and a Swamp Boat Tour.

While I wait for that book, this has been a great introduction to Paige and Mitch, who they are individually and how they are together. I loved them both. Paige as the practical and independent, yoga teaching, cat lover. And Mitch as the charming, calm and deep Southern man. In a way they make a great opposites-attract romance.

As this is a crossover book from two of Nicholas’s series - Hot Cakes and Boys of the Bayou - fans will recognise Paige as the sister of Josie (Making Whoopie) and Mitch is a cousin of the Landry Clan. This also means that Paige is from Iowa and Mitch is from Louisiana.

On a trip to Appleby, Mitch meets Paige and the two have an instant connection and spend a delightful night together before Mitch returns to Louisiana. This story starts 6 months after that first visit. Mitch is back in town and Paige is trying not to be as excited to see him as she clearly is.

And there’s a reason why she’s excited, as Mitch is gorgeous, laid back, sweet, sexy… and the chemistry between them is combustible. There’s a lot of quick and dirty grabbing going on and oh boy did my stomach turn over each time the pair got together. If this is any indication of how Four Weddings… is going to be, then I might go for a lie down right now!

As this is a crossover, we get small cameos from some characters from all the previous books. Most notably it’s Josh and Tori (My Best Friend's Mardi Gras Wedding) and Chase (Must Love Alligators). Most of the Hot Cakes gang are also around since our story takes place in Appleby. Oh and in other Hot Cakes news - this book also contains a cute scene with Max (Jane’s friend from Forking Around).

I very much enjoyed this short story and introduction to Paige and Mitch’s full romance. I’m normally very much against books that don’t have a HEA but I knew going in what I was getting, and that I would definitely be reading the next book in the series to get the rest of the story. If that’s not you - perhaps you should pass on this book for the time being. But fans of Erin Nicholas or either of the two series’ connected to this book - you get a cute and fun story that will make you giddy with anticipation and excitement. 4 stars. ( )
