This was my first Taylor Jenkins Reid and I made the mistake of going in expecting literary fiction. Many of the characters seemed like stereotypes to me, especially Mick Riva (who bore too much of a resemblance to Dewey Cox), but also June as the forsaken woman and Nina as the beautiful, selfless, responsible one. Nina's husband and marriage also seemed like cliches. I was unhappy with the ending because I expected there to be some twist and there was not. When I realized this book wasn't that deep, I thought maybe it was supposed to hinge on the mystery of who set the house on fire. But that's not it either. It's also not a romance and it's not especially humorous. So I'm not sure what the appeal is except for the setting. I did enjoy reading the fun hyperbolic party stuff highlighting the fashion and excesses of the 1980s. There were a lot of short sketches of side characters which were fun but didn't contribute much to the overall story. I have some other TJR books on my TBR list, but now I'm not sure if she's for me. ei arvosteluja | lisää arvostelu

Interspersed with the story of the Riva children is the story of Mick and June - how they met, eventually got married, started a family and the end of their marriage.
I enjoyed this book but felt that the ending was a bit rushed. I can see there being a sequel to this book but I don't think there "needs" to be a sequel. ( )
