Instead of giving a full account of George Washington's life like George Washington the First President, this biography focuses on when Washington was a boy. Washington wanted to be a proper gentleman like his older brother until a trip in the wilderness prepares him for other challenges. This is a fictional biography because the author describes reactions and feelings of Washington as a boy. Although the author may have an idea of Washington's character from stories about his boyhood and his later writing, there is no way to tell exactly what his feelings were a certain times in his youth. I think the story gives a good insight on how George Washington may have acted in his early years. ( )

This is about the early life and childhood of George Washington. I didn't really know much about his early life, so I thought this book was really interesting. He was born on February 22, 1732. He wasn't the only child for long. As a child, he loved to help his father out on the farm and loved to help with his younger siblings. He moved from the plantation to a place called Espewasson when he was three years old. He didn't like this very much. He loved, however, to play outdoors whenever he could. His brother was one of his biggest inspirations in his life and he wanted to be just like him. When George Washington was 7 years old, he finally enrolled in school. This made him very happy. But two years after he started school, his house, also known as Ferry Farm, had burned down. He wanted to do anything he could to help out his family. He relied on his brother to help him out when he needed him most. This story was really interesting to me because it explores Washington's early life and many people might not know very much about it. I think that children would definitely enjoy this book because of the illustrations and the detail it gives about his early life. This book was really great. ( )

George Washington grew up on a farm with his parents and siblings. George was very close to his father and sad he sailed away to New England. His Parents didn't have enough money to send him to a fancy school, so he had to attend school at nearby neighbors. George dream wanted to be gentlemen, but he would have to teach himself since his parents didn't have the money to send him to the school of his dreams. His older brother wanted George to become a sailor, but George didn't like the sea. George found a job doing surveying this career suited him. One day George meets a man named Lord Fairfax, he offers George a lot of money to do surveys, and he could see the money just rolling in. This job took him on his greatest adventure he wound up spending 33 days in the wilderness. He came across wild animals and harsh weather but survived. George knew he was on his way to becoming a fine Virgina Gentleman. ( )

In this biography of George Washington, readers get an in-depth look at his life before he became the first President of the United States. The illustrator does a wonderful job using watercolor. The pictures in the story will surely capture the attention of all readers. St. George, the author of the story, informs his readers of how George Washington became the famous man everyone knows. This would be a great story to read to students when talking about biographies or talking about past Presidents. ( )

This is such a great book to introduce the childhood of George Washington and how much he worked before he even became President. ( )
