The Genesis of Seven (The Empyrean Trilogy) (vuoden 2020 painos)

You step right into the action in the first chapter of this series opener. Sara M Schaller wastes no time catching your attention, but the pacing does slow after that initial chapter as most of the backstory is being told. Chapters jump timelines and POVs between a few of the main characters and there is quite a chunk of backstory to get through about the angels, but once through, the story progresses nicely.

The one big issue I couldn't get past was that each character didn't feel distinct in their own voice. The same words were used for a young, modern-day man and an ancient angel...I really feel like there would be a maturity level difference there or something to let me know who's head I'm in currently. Because of this, I couldn't connect with a personality for each character, they all had their burdens and a part to play in the storyline, but I just didn't see that show through. I'm really hoping we get more character growth and development in the next two books.

All in all, I did enjoy the story and if, like me, you like stories centered around angels, I definitely recommend giving this one a read. I'm intrigued to see what the rest of the trilogy is like!
