This was very well written with strong characterization, however, I just can't get behind this couple. There seems to be a distinct lack of respect on the male's part for the female's decisions. He has made up his mind that something is the best for both of them and is pushing for it regardless of the realities of his career and what sacrifices she would have to make. On top of that it appears that the message is that a woman should happily sacrifice everything for a man and that "love" will help her to be happy with that decision, especially since he is a hero and therefore worthy of her making those sacrifices. I can see no happy outcome for this couple unless there is more to the equation than we have been given in this short story. I do want to clarify that I have the highest respect for military spouses and would never counsel someone to not date or marry a military person purely because of their career. My problem with the representation in this book has to do with the lack of prayer about whether it is the right choice for the female lead with an honest look at what decisions she will have to make in regards to the future if they get together. Perhaps we will see how a happily ever after works for them in future books in the series?
That being said, I would still read more from this author. I liked her storytelling and, if her content is better chosen and developed, I think I could really enjoy her work. ( )

This was a fun, quick read. My only complaint is that I wish there was more. :) Hoping there might be more mention of these two characters and the status of their relationship in some of the rest of the books that are coming in this series. ( )
