This book contains the first book publication of 'Bitter End" which Stout published in magazine form in 1940 about the same time he published in book form Bad for Business with the same storyline but Tecumseh Fox as detective instead of Nero Wolfe. I vastly prefer the Wolfe version. As I commented in my review of BfB, the opening which Wolfe takes a mouthful of pate laced with quinine and spits it out all over Archie is a classic, and there are several more good scene to follow as Wolfe investigate who is sabotaging Tingley's Tidbits, and then switches to who cut the throat of the elderly manufacturer Arthur Tingley. This book version also includes a piece "Archie" wrote for Life magazine about why Wolfe loves orchids, which includes a number of interesting biographical sidelights on Wolfe --that he has 14 varieties of orchid named by or for him that he hybridized, and over 100 unnamed varieties awaiting recognition, that he got his first orchid from a man he cleared of a murder charge etc. The book also includes a long interview wit Rex Stout at the age of 87 the year before he died, and useful list of all the Wolfe stories.
