Miami just got a lot more dangerous -- especially for one innocent young woman running for her life. The city of Miami is Detective Tom Moon's back yard. He's always kept it local, attending University of Miami on a football scholarship, and, as a Miami PD officer, protecting the city's most vulnerable. Now, as the new leader of an FBI task force called "Operation Guardian," it's his mission to combat international crime. Moon's investigative team discovers that the opportunistic "Blood Brothers" -- Russian nationals Roman and Emile Rostoff -- have evaded authorities while building a vast, powerful, and deadly crime syndicate throughout Europe and metropolitan Miami. Moon played offense for U of M, but he's on the other side of the field this time. And as the Rostoffs zero in on a target dear to Tom, they're not playing by anyone's rules.… (lisätietoja)

A likable new character Tom Moon. Story sets in Miami with human trafficking and Russian related. It was a typical Patterson detective/FBI/law enforcement mystery. Not bad but could use more action. ( )

As with many James Patterson's books this was a fun read. Beyond that it is one of the better structured stories (story line, writing, characters and flow), candidly if the quality can be maintained at this level would like to see a series come out of this one.

There is nothing terribly exotic about the story. It is a pretty straight law enforcement story regarding human trafficking between the EU and the United States. In this instance it involves the all time favorite this century baddies, the Russian mob, and a lone gatherer in the Netherlands. Any time the Russian mob is mentioned in a story automatically violence and blood shed comes to mind. While the violence and blood shed is not a significant part of the story there is sufficient there as it does appear it is obligatory when they are involved.

The principle character is a Miami police officer who is assigned to an interdepartmental task force working in human trafficking in South Florida and Miami in particular. For a change the character development of the primary character is fairly reasonable and all told I found they made him rather interesting. To help things out the story did include operations and time in both the Netherlands and Miami which gave an interesting entry into a potential love interest for our hero.

With 4 stars it is obvious I enjoyed this and it is quite a bit lighter than some I have recently read so it was a refreshing interlude. There are few James Patterson books I can't recommend because he does write different levels of enjoyable mind candy. Yeah, I addicted to his mind candy! But, this one should be read by anyone who even only halfway enjoys Patterson's writing. ( )

Miami detective Tom Moon, heading a special FBI “Operation Guardian” task force, comes up against a Russian crime syndicate with tentacles throughout Europe. Firmly entrenched in Miami and hiding behind a mask of respectability, the crimes of Emile and Roman Rostoff have netted them a great deal of money at the expense of others.

Can Tom and his investigative team find a way to take down the Rostoff brothers and destroy their deadly syndicate?

Interesting characters, a strong sense of place, and realistic police procedures make this intriguing narrative difficult to set aside. The strong backstory for Tom Moon makes the character both relatable and empathetic while the timely human trafficking story gives readers insight into the young victims of this odious crime and keeps the suspense building. Patterson’s trademark short chapters keep the tension escalating as the unfolding story spins out a few unexpected surprises.

James Patterson’s many fans will find much to appreciate here; this promising start of a new series is sure to garner fans anticipating the next chapter in Tom Moon’s adventures.

Highly recommended. ( )
