Changing the Equation: 50 US Black Women in STEM is an amazing read that incorporates African American women representation geared towards middle grade levels exploring Black women who have changed the history towards the world of STEM such as Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics. Regarding being a chapter book, this book provides 50 inspiration Black women who have made an impact towards STEM such as computer scientists, doctors, inventors, mathematicians, pilots, pharmacists, physicists, and other STEM related careers. This book is a great read towards representation of women in science or math as it provides mathematician Katherine Johnson, whose calculations allowed for NASA to have an astronaut orbit around the Earth. Additionally, it also talks about major issues that Black women have faced and still may face to this day such as the racial discrimination they had to face towards their STEM peers or audiences. This is an amazing read that can be correlated towards math and science to serve as a representation for students and content topics and it can also correlate to US history as in how Black women have impacted history towards the world of STEM and what historical issues they had to endure.
