'The Authenticity Project' is British literary fiction that shows the social problems of the 21st century. People who live their lives not in a real way but behind photoshopped social media accounts. People are isolated because of old age, sickness, depreciation, and don't know how to ask something even from their neighbors. We live in times that we waste our time behind screens and mobile and forget how to speak to our fellow human beings.
The characters are developed so well; Clare Pooley did a fantastic job with her characters because they had depth, and they were cultivated. The truth is that Clare Pooley took a part of her real-life and addiction she had (wrote it in the author's note) and built an incredible cast of characters with some addiction or problem. With the help of the green book, 'Authenticity Project' and the circle of people found themselves solutions to their stumbling blocks.
The truth is the ending left me wanting more; I wanted to know what will happen to the circle of people. 'The Authenticity Project' connected with such an open ending, the characters' relationship can go in different directions. Hopefully, someday the author will write a continuation.
After reading 'The Authenticity Project,' it will be interesting to see small projects occurring around urban areas or the big metropolis. Maybe a new trend will start to get connected to their close communities and be more close personally than virtually.
Readers connect this book to 'Eleanor Oliphant is Completely Fine' by Gail Honeyman. In my opinion, they are two different books. The truth is, I was not too fond of Eleanor's story. And I prefer 'The Authenticity Project' better. I know that I will look forward to reading more from Clare Pooley.
TW: Addictions:- Drugs, alcohol, social media, and depression. ( )

80/2021. The Authenticity Project, by Clare Pooley, is a "feelgood" novel about friendship. Very white, despite or perhaps because of the inclusion of non-point-of-view British Chinese characters as comic relief (or to tell us how terrible China is), very middle class, unrealistic escapism but I'm guessing that's what the author intended. The plot and characters work well within those limitations. 3.5*

Brompton Cemetery: "The cemetery was one of Monica's favourite places - a timeless oasis of calm in the city. She loved the gravestones - a last show of one-upmanship. I'll see your marble slab with its fancy biblical quotation and raise you a life-sized Jesus on the cross." ( )

This was a warm and endearing novel about truth, friendship, integrity, and the power of connection. I was intrigued by the premise, while the various characters and their situations kept me reading. Loved the quirky and humorous direction of the plot, and the interconnectivity of the characters and their lives. And there were a few surprises that took the book from predictable to fresh and entertaining. If you're looking for a contemporary novel that is sharply insightful about honesty and image, I recommend this engaging feel-good story. ( )

Cleverly constructed novel built around being honest with friends and family. Julian, a fading artist decides he finally admit to his loneliness, which he puts into writing and .eaves in Monica's cafe in Fulham. This sets off a chain of events, starting with Monica's addition to Julian's Authenticity Project, which stretches to Thailand and back. Everyone reading and adding to Julian's book finds themselves changed, for the better and the local community as well. A feel-good story for 2021. ( )

Very readable book. Some nice surprises. I am not a fan of social influences in books. ( )
