Cami Donovan is a vet and a witch. Her element is water and she can talk with animals. She also recovering from an abusive relationship. She's smart, talented and set on her life plan.

Sam Corraza is a restaurant owner and comes from parents who disowned him. When he sees Cami in his restaurant his all work and no play attitude changes as he wants to spend all his free time with her and his adorable dog Bogart.

I loved how smart and strong these characters were and their relationship until they did stupid things. There were so many red flags that these smart characters ignored that it drove me nuts reading it.

The mystery of a long dead starlet's murder was interesting but I never really bought into their need to solve the crime. It didn't seem to gel well with this couple. It was interesting on it's own but it felt like two different stories at times.

Overall an okay read, interesting characters and lots of groundwork laid for future stories about the other Donovan sisters and the Corraza family.

Tides of Time by Luna Joya was difficult to get into. The first part was more about sex than an actual plot or getting to know the characters. It was so boring I almost didn't finish it. Luckily, I forged on an found the middle of the book more interesting. The back story of Sunny Sol was more interesting than the present day. The whole ex-boyfriend thing could have been handled with more character and depth to give it more interest. By the way, I'm not a prude, but when you spend more time on the sex scenes than actually developing the characters the book suffers. Sex scenes should enhance the plot, and not be gratuitous. ( )

Tides of Time is the first book in the Legacy series of paranormal romances by Luna Joya. Cami is a witch from a family of witches. She has a psychic connection to animals and can control her element, water. She has refused to use her powers since she used them to defend herself against her violent ex-boyfriend. When her youngest sister asks her help to solve the murder of a 1930’s movie star, she finds herself working with a handsome restaurant owner who sidelines as a historical researcher for movie scripts. Sam has some painful secrets from his past as well. Cami and Sam need to solve a murder from the past while defeating the issues from their personal pasts if they hope to find love and survive danger in the present.

This book was an enjoyable but fairly standard romantic suspense novel with some paranormal elements. It is quite well written compared to many I have read in the past. The characters are interesting and the dialogue is often quite fun. The historical mystery of old Hollywood is well done. Cami is an intelligent and independent character and capable of defending herself, which I appreciate. Sam is a well-rounded character and not the alpha male type often found in paranormal romances. I found Cami’s and Sam’s families to be intriguing characters as well.

I would have liked more paranormal content in the novel. Cami used her magic some, but there was more emphasis on the sisters’ psychic abilities. There was very little explanation of the magic system that the witches used. There were some hints about the witches society and some indications that more will be revealed in future books in the series.

Some sexual content, but not excessive. I would recommend this book to readers who enjoy romantic suspense or paranormal romance. ( )

I loved this book. A great combination of occult, sexy romance and mystery. The characters are vibrant, exotic and wonderful. Cami, the sexy witch, Sam the very sexy restaurant owner and his beloved basset hound Bogie. Along for the ride are Cami's grandmother and her four witch sisters, all with different abilities. They all go on a quest to find out how a 1930's Hollywood film star died, was it suicide or murder? Enjoy the read and I can't wait to read more in the legacy series. ( )
