I tried to read the kindle ARC of this novel from NetGalley.

This is my honest review of the 7% I managed to read. Yuck.

Terrible formatting issues, merely adequate prose, a dishrag woman and an obnoxious man minimally offset by the nicer second man. A sketched-in past history between the first two that is much more annoying than revelatory. Sexism. Misogyny. Zero communication. Creepy.

I did not leave a review for it on NG, just feedback as to why. I won't leave one on amazon. This review is for you, fellow readers; shun this unless you're just reading for sex scenes, if other reviewers are to be believed. I did not get that far. I prefer my sex scenes to be between characters I actually like.

This was the perfect, smutty, lighthearted romance I was looking for! This book was full of really sexy, steamy scenes and I really enjoyed it. I loved the characters and that it was written in multiple POV’s. My only feedback would be that I would’ve liked it to be a little bit longer. I felt like the beginning and the ending were a bit rushed and I would’ve liked a little more background on Quinn and Austin as well as some more angst and sexual tension. I felt the resolution with April’s ex was too rushed and I would’ve liked to see her get some revenge. Overall though, this was a great, quick read and really helped me avoid a book hangover!

April Smith was suppose to get married until she caught her fiancé with another woman. Now she's stuck with the hotel bill and all her finances cut off. Abandoned as an infant by her mother, all she's ever wanted was to be loved and wanted.

Quinn Taylor met April in college, he loved her and never understood why she left him. When she finds her in dire straights at the hotel he's staying in, he comes to her rescue and offers her crazy proposition to keep her in his life for the next month.

Austin Wright is Quinn's business partner and closest friend. He just wants to see his friend happy and will do anything to help April and Quinn get back together.

Quinn wants April in his bed along with his best friend Auston. He thinks she's a gold digger and tries to keep things all about the sex but quickly realizes he never stopped loving her.

Once these three connect in the bedroom, things get hot and steamy. There are some really good emotional scenes, but they are almost drowned out by a whole lot of bedroom time.

It was hard to connect to their emotional relationship. It felt like their story was more about how in lust they were. I also had a hard time reconciling the shy, quiet woman with the sexpot she portrayed almost immediately.

Hot, smexy second chance at love romance.

I received an ARC of this book to read through NetGalley. All opinions are my own. Stroke of Luck is the newest romantic erotica novel by Opal Carew. I’ve read and enjoyed novels in this genre by this author in the past, but this one didn’t do it for me. I don’t think the author ever let us know who the characters were. I finished the book with no clear understanding of why I should care about them. The heroine April Smith who comes across as the energizer bunny version of a sex doll, breaks up with her fiancé on the eve of their Vegas wedding when she catches him having sex with another woman during the rehearsal dinner… then in a plot point that made no sense to me she’s left holding the bag for the hotel room and all the wedding expenses, he’s cancelled her credit card, asked the hotel to take away all of her clothing, and sold her home out from under her in the space of a few hours. She’s rescued by her now wealthy college boyfriend Quinn Taylor and his business partner Austin Wright. To pay them back for paying the hotel bill, she agrees to spend a month with them and have sex on demand with both men. To me, a menage means that the three participants are doing things together, but this is more of an M/F with the other M watching and then tagging in while the first M watches. I’d also like to say LUBE … DP without lube is not a good thing. Steam Level: High but more mechanical than erotic or romantic. Publishing Date: December 1, 2020

**MINI-REVIEW**

The Bottom Line: I have taken a long break from reading Opal Carew and I think that break helped me enjoy this book a bit more. I can’t say there was anything new under the sun in this read, but it didn’t stop me from liking the ride. April has been unceremoniously dumped on her wedding day after finding her fiancé in bed with another woman. In her despair, she runs into a love from her past who not only bails her out but offers her a month of nothing but pleasure with he and his business partner/best friend. Though everyone goes into the arrangement with a no strings attached attitude, it quickly becomes more which means navigating a ton of obstacles and emotions that no one expected. In most ways, this is a very typical Opal Carew read: fast falling in love, loads of naughty bits, and a fairly thin plot. Sometimes, that is exactly the kind of book one is looking for and if you are, Opal Carew is your go-to author.

FYI: Yes, I double-checked to be sure I’m not crazy! The synopsis calls the main character Riana while my NetGalley copy has April. I have no idea which name will stick 😊 ( )
