An heir of an ancient evil lineage, Milo Brown kidnaps twelve-year-old Angelica Davila from the streets of Santa Barbara. Hiding his crime, he "disposes" of her via a time portal leading back to the years before The Great Flood. Found, adopted, and raised by Takachi the hunter, she is known in her new world as Akatiel. But Takachi's sons betray their father to be killed by the rulers of the age, and she is wrongly outcast as a rebel.
