This book tells the story of a boy named Adam and his views of life with Dyslexia. We read about his school years and how learning words is difficult for him to do. Going into well known details of how a student who has Dyslexia struggles in school with words and gives ways to help them advance their work with words. It shows the importance of working with children to help them even if they see themselves as "different". ( ) Adam struggles in school with his dyslexia and wants to achieve reading and be as successful as his classmates. We see him escape his reality of frustration and use his imagination this we see in the illustrations of the evil king tormenting him with letters. I love that the book goes over how these kids with dyslexia can learn such as tracing words kinesthetically on arm or in the sand. It explained the confusing between p.q.b.d very well to were kids can understand. The use of the tearing of the spelling test picture and the idea of bullying and lacking confidence was an important mention of the book. The encouragement of the teacher continuously telling Adam "You can do it" was motivating and inspiring to me as a future teacher. The confused/sad faces of the boy quickly changed as he developed to accommodate and the teacher even read test questions aloud like 504 plans. The gain of smiles and confidence through his success with the light bulb wires made me very happy for him and can teach classmates that all student can learn they may just do so in different ways. It can express to children that learning disabilities do not make students "dumb". The book is a touching story about a child that does not realize that he has a disability. However, through the book, he soon learns that he is different from his friends and he starts to doubt his ability. Even though Adam is very smart, his confidence level spirals down dramatically when he realizes he has an alphabet war going on inside his head. The teachers gave him support and he started to notice things he could do instead of things he could not do. Once again Adam starts to believe in himself. I really liked how the pictures illustrated how Adam dealt with and felt about words and letters. The illustration at the end of the book was bright and cheery with Adam smiling. Which to me, shows that he can now read and understand letters and words. I really liked this book and how the word "dyslexia" was never mention throughout the book. No person should even be looked first at their disability but instead their ability to accomplish things in life. This book would be too long for my students even though it is on level. näyttää 3/3 ei arvosteluja | lisää arvostelu
