- Ei tämänhetkisiä Keskustelu-viestiketjuja tästä kirjasta. ![]() Rumpole is writing his memoirs and remembering his first big case that he won "without a leader". With great pride, he has mentioned The Penge Bungalow Murders often during his career, a case in which he defended a young man accused of murdering his father and another man. This is one of those mysteries that illustrates a legal case that would have been lost - and in this case the defendant would have hanged - if it had not been for an astute lawyer. Probably the way it works in real life too if we go by some recent stories that have hit the headlines. The story was also a nice reminiscence of Rumpole's meeting with Hilda, "She Who Must Be Obeyed". I enjoyed this one, possibly more than any other in the series. Interesting historical legal procedural set shortly after WWII. Rumpole has his first case as a defense attorney -- the murder of two war heroes in their homes, supposedly shot by one of the men's son. But Rumpole doesn't think the boy did it. Rumpole is an interesting character, and I will be seeking out more of Mortimer's books to follow more of his story. ei arvosteluja | lisää arvostelu
Horace Rumpole - cigar-smoking, claret-drinking, Wordsworth-spouting defender of some unlikely clients - often speaks of the great murder trial which revealed his talents as an advocate and made his reputation down at the Bailey when he was still a young man. Now, for the first time, the sensational story of the Penge Bungalow Murders case is told in full: how, shortly after the war, Rumpole took on the seemingly impossible task of defending young Simon Jerold, accused of murdering his father and his father's friend with a German officer's gun. And how the inexperienced young brief was left alone to pursue the path of justice, in a case that was to echo through the Bailey for years to come. Kirjastojen kuvailuja ei löytynyt. |
