29,028 feet tall and still growing?! Even though Mount Everest measures 29,028 feet high, it may be growing about two inches a year. A mountain might be thousands of feet high, but it can still grow taller or shorter each year. Mountains are created when the huge plates that make up the earth's outer shell very slowly pull and push against one another. The book begins in story form with children climbing a mountain and wondering about how they were made. It then continues to discuss how mountains came to be and how they continue to grow and change. It also discusses the layers of the Earth, plates, and the differences between the mountains around the world. It also includes connections to help students understand the larger ideas being discussed, such as scrunching up a towel with your hands to symbolize the mountain plates pressing together. The book is part of a series that is made to be aligned with both the common core and the NGSS. ( )

How Mountains are formed
  MGraysonk12 | Apr 11, 2013 |
This is an easy science book that explains to children the basics on how a mountain is formed. Also how some mountains might be getting bigger or taller as each day goes by. The wording is easy and the pictures have detail and color making it interesting to look at. The book basically breaks down and simplifies the current theory on mountain formation. ( )
