MacKayla Lane's life is good. She has great friends, a decent job, and a car that breaks down only every other week or so. In other words, she's your perfectly ordinary twenty-first-century woman.Or so she thinks...until something extraordinary happens. When her sister is murdered, leaving a single clue to her death--a cryptic message on Mac's cell phone--Mac journeys to Ireland in search of answers. The quest to find her sister's killer draws her into a shadowy realm where nothing is as it seems, where good and evil wear the same treacherously seductive mask. She is soon faced with an even greater challenge: staying alive long enough to learn how to handle a power she had no idea she possessed--a gift that allows her to see beyond the world of man, into the dangerous realm of the Fae....As Mac delves deeper into the mystery of her sister's death, her every move is shadowed by the dark, mysterious Jericho, a man with no past and only mockery for a future. As she begins to close in on the truth, the ruthless Vlane--an alpha Fae who makes sex an addiction for human women--closes in on her. And as the boundary between worlds begins to crumble, Mac's true mission becomes clear: find the elusive Sinsar Dubh before someone else claims the all-powerful Dark Book--because whoever gets to it first holds nothing less than complete control of the very fabric of both worlds in their hands....… (lisätietoja)

i felt like this jumped into the “we’re going to war we need more sidhe-seers pronto!!” too quickly at the end (idk i think i was expecting a crazier cliff hanger than that)

i really enjoyed this though! i’ve been meaning to read it forever and i randomly checked it out from the library just to try and i’m glad it was as good as it is!! and a decently long series too ( )

The physical book comes with 3 pages called "Glossary from Mac's Journal"

I've also read:
- The Alpha Alternative: JZB Sex Scene #1.5 which I've heard is expanded in Book #7. As I was reading it I couldn't understand how I missed Mac's version of this story in Book 1 but by the end it's clear. That "twist" is my favorite part of the story. This story revealed a lot about Barrons that isn't obvious from reading the story from Mac's POV. It made me dislike Barrens very much.
- Blood Fever #2 - 4*
- Faefever #3 - 3* - started with audio but got HC to finish. I couldn't wait for car rides to continue the story. I ran out of errands. :)
- Dreamfever #4 - 4* - What a cliffhanger must be the druid (Christian), so it can't be the thing in the bsmt, so Ryodan is lying. Edit: book 5 answers all questions. Well played.
- Shadowfever #5 - 4* - Someone else's review said "We don't have to accept him nor do we have to forgive him and I personally don't. But, I do enjoy reading about him."
- Fever Moon Graphic Novel #5.5 - 1* - With Mac drawn like that I obviously wasn't the target audience. Absolutely ridiculous. I can understand her being hot but that was over the top. And Barrons... awful look. He doesn't have to match the imagine in my head but does he have to be ugly? This must of taken place concurrently with one of the books, I think book 5. But Dani and Rowena were never in the hospital with parts of their face missing so why not just make a different story in the world? Do not recommend.

Open questions/Notes for myself

her pool of magic fix anything ruins? *eye-roll* endless access to whatever magic you need is cheating
her mother was pregnant but Barrens said he saw grave 5 days later. where is her mom?
how is she UK but had normal birth/life
why did she like barrens soooo much
why did Dani get sis killed
why does Rowena hate her so much
why do shades ignore Barrens
who did v'lane/cruce think she was, he called her princess.

Author says regarding next books "It's a trilogy, books 6/7/8. Then there will be two more stories that continue 1-5.
--------------------

It's 2020 and I haven't gotten back to the series in maybe 8 years. I'm going to let the idea of reading the next books go. I don't need more of the same. Seeking other stories now. And I'm so over having a story be spread out along so many books. ( )

Before I even begin to review this book, a little backstory on how I discovered it. I found the book back in 2017 via Goodreads, well, the cover for Feversong that is. It was absolutely gorgeous and the other covers made me seem kinda weary, but that's was about it.

Here I am now, in 2019, finding out about the PNR series that is the Fever series.

Now, Darkfever took me SO long to read due to the fact that I downloaded a sample of the collection via Google Books app containing the first 8 or so books and it managed to give me a preview on the ENTIRE first book.

When the time came, that's when I decided to read it. After reading it via eread sample, I finally managed to get the Mass Market paperback of the book last Saturday.

Okay, onto some thoughts. I was originally going to give this book two stars, mainly due to the fact that I personally found the book to be quite slow, Mac as annoying, and Jericho not really all the hype that I seem to feel.

Then the 2nd half came into play and THAT'S when it slightly improved. Jericho is still a meh for me so far, but after finding out more about Mac and what she is, as well as her planning to seek out the Sinsar Dubh, it's going to be quite interesting to see how it play out for the rest of the series.

I don't mind sexual content in books, but this first book definitely had some steamy situations between Mac and the Fae that made me feel slightly uncomfortable slash awkward. Just saying.

Also, the 2nd to last chapter of this book was pretty good, I'll admit, it was cute with what Jericho did to Mac ;).

I haven't fallen head over heels for Jericho (yet), but the banter between him and Mac is quite snarky, hilarious and everything in between. Its sort of a love/hate relationship in a way.

Overall, Darkfever is 3 stars from me. It had a couple of flaws to it with its slow pace and characters at the beginning, but it picked during the 2nd half of the book. Here's the the 2nd book, Bloodfever, whenever I plan on getting that book.

Also, managed to finish this book BEFORE Valentine's Day. ( )

This was so much fun! It reminds me of cheesy tv shows like Merlin, Stargate, Lost Girl with fun adventure fighting monsters. Only with more smut although this book did not have any sex scenes. I love the slow burn between Mac and Barrons. I swoon every time he says Ms. Lane. ( )
