Not brilliant but good escapism nevertheless. Mostly I'd give this level of distraction and entertainment four stars but, being in a more cantankerous frame of mind right now, I felt it lacked some critical level of zing, or some gel that would make this more cohesive and believable.

Judge Andrew Phillips and Detective Clay Brown get to know each other when Clay is assigned as Andrew's bodyguard. A crim who Andrew has put behind bars is released and threatens him.

This becomes more complicated when Andrew's sister has a breakdown and Andrew takes over care of her two small children, a heart-string-pulling sidebar. I'm not against that per se! the novel does draw you in.

I’ll be upfront with y’all... I am not at very picky when it comes to romance novels. There are even some tropes that I love in romance novels that I can’t stand in other books, like one person in a couple being a bit overprotective. So I found this to be a quick, fun, enjoyable read but definitely not the best I’ve ever read. The pacing was weird in parts of this and there wasn’t quite enough conflict for my case. So much of this was waiting for something bad to happen with nothing that bad really ever happened. Still this was fun so if you are looking for something quick, this boom may work for you. (

In this story we have a cute, cuddly dog, two nearly orphaned children, and some characters from other books in his Carlisle Cops series. I really like that the author doesn’t discard his characters from other books…but “recycles” them by bringing them into other stories so that the reader can visit these much loved characters again and again,. It’s wonderful to see how these men become good friends and help and support each other when one or the other is faced with small or enormous problems. Combined together it all makes for quite a lovely ride. (

There are so many layers to this story that I don’t know where to start. In general is was a sweet story with a many layers that were pulled together very nicely. A good read. (
