Worth Her Weight in Gold by Sarah Gailey is a very short story that is set in her version of an alternative America that she introduced in her novel, River of Teeth. This is a fun addition to the series but is not the place to start as it is far too short. Her world-building and characters are best read about in her longer books in order to get a true picture of this reinvented America where hippos are both transportation and companions. (

Winslow Remington Houndstooth, creator of the best and rarest breed of hippo in the United States of America, notorious outlaw, handsomest heartbreaker in the American South.

I liked the hippo, but I wish there was a bit more to the story.

Great short story about the hippos!
Worth Her Weight in Gold (River of Teeth) by Sarah Gailey is a terrific short story in the series of the hippos. A short but fun story to put a smile on the reader's face! I love this world. Hope she has another book in the series! (

Too slight to stand on its own. Feels like a character introduction excerpted from a novel (or perhaps cut from it) with a hasty resolution tacked on. (
