Sophie Dawson has just started working as a prosecutor in the White Collar division in Fulton County. Her first case is to investigate a bank employee who may be cheating customers. Soon she finds that she is the sole witness to a double homicide. This was not what she was expecting, at all. Cooper Knight, a former police office and now a private security guard has accepted a job of keeping Sophie safe. Before long, neither of them know who they can trust. This book places the reader inside both of these legal professions. Dylan has created characters which are strong and complex. This is the second book in the series. The characters from the first book show up as secondary characters. The third book in this series is due out in 2019. I decided to review the book Lone Witness by Rachel Dylan recently. I do not typically read Mystery/Detective type novels but I decided to try this one. This book is the second in the Atlanta Justice series. I did not read the first book and you do not need to as this book stands alone. Sophie Dawson is the heroine of the story and the main character. She is an attorney who is involved in prosecuting a case involving a high profile financial institution. She also just happens to be the only witness to a crime involving the mob. I found the above situation to be a bit unbelievable especially considering the fact that she is also described as being very beautiful and has so much money from her family that she doesn't need to work. Putting all that aside, the book moves along well and is a good summer read. Rachel Dylan weaves a very suspenseful story with elements of faith interwoven in. She develops her characters fairly well and leaves you guessing as to the outcome of the story until the end. I will probably go and find her first book from this series. I would recommend this book to anyone wanting a quick mystery fix! I think I may even read more books from the genre in the future. I received this book from Bethany House for my honest review. Author Rachel Dylan knows her way around the courtroom as her talents are on full display in her newest book Lone Witness. The simultaneous telling of a beautiful love story between two broken people and the fear that brings them together. Prosecutor, Sophie Dawson and private security officer Cooper Knight are so well done, as is the real fear you feel for Sophie’s situation. This book is straight out of a Law and Order-esque TV show with strong female lawyers to boot! An enchanting read as you feel the fear for the tangles of Sophie’s job, love for the characters uniting and passion for the work the ADA’s office is doing. Dylan expertly weaves the bad guys with the good as the reader is left scrambling to disentangle Sophie’s dangerous predicament. Anyone whom loves law dramas and romance will not be dissatisfied or lost in book two of the Atlanta Justice series. Sophie recently earned a promotion at the district attorney's office, and she has a fraud case on her hands involving a local bank employee. Then one terrifying night, Sophie is on the scene of a brutal double homicide. Since she's now at risk as both a prosecutor and an eyewitness, her father hires a private security guard, Cooper, to keep her safe in Lone Witness by author Rachel Dylan. This second novel in the Atlanta Justice series can stand on its own, though it brings back a few characters from the previous book. Like that first book, this novel's strength is in the legal side of things, how the cases unfold in and out of the courtroom. I anticipated the more explosive moments of danger, but there were other key twists I didn't see coming. While this novel is labeled as romantic suspense, I'm not sure I'd call it that. Because it includes the perspectives of several characters, two of which are involved in their own subplot, it's more of a story about various people than about a romantic couple. Also like the first book, the romance thread isn't the novel's strong point. There's a lot of clichéd phrasing, a trite feel to the development, and though the story tells us Sophie and Cooper have "intense physical chemistry," I wasn't convinced of it. The turning point/climax of their relationship comes about with a major change of mind, but we don't get to see a gradual process or a momentous event that brings about that specific change, to make it more believable. Nevertheless, Sophie's contrasting roles as lawyer and witness kept me interested, and other fans of ChristFic legal suspense should enjoy this read. ____________ Bethany House provided me with a complimentary copy of this book for an honest review. ei arvosteluja | lisää arvostelu
