NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER * A shocking discovery on a honeymoon in paradise changes the lives of a picture-perfect couple in this taut psychological thriller debut--for readers of Ruth Ware, Paula Hawkins, and Shari Lapena. "A psychological thriller that captivated me from page one. What unfolds makes for a wild, page-turning ride! It's the perfect beach read!"--Reese Witherspoon (Reese's Book Club x Hello Sunshine book pick) If you could make one simple choice that would change your life forever, would you?   Erin is a documentary filmmaker on the brink of a professional breakthrough, Mark a handsome investment banker with big plans. Passionately in love, they embark on a dream honeymoon to the tropical island of Bora Bora, where they enjoy the sun, the sand, and each other. Then, while scuba diving in the crystal blue sea, they find something in the water. . . .   Could the life of your dreams be the stuff of nightmares?   Suddenly the newlyweds must make a dangerous choice: to speak out or to protect their secret. After all, if no one else knows, who would be hurt? Their decision will trigger a devastating chain of events. . . .   Have you ever wondered how long it takes to dig a grave?   Wonder no longer. Catherine Steadman's enthralling voice shines throughout this spellbinding debut novel. With piercing insight and fascinating twists, Something in the Water challenges the reader to confront the hopes we desperately cling to, the ideals we're tempted to abandon, and the perfect lies we tell ourselves. Praise for Something in the Water "Arresting . . . deftly paced, elegantly chilly . . . [Catherine] Steadman brings . . . wit, timing and intelligence to this novel. . . . Something in the Water is a proper page-turner."--The New York Times "With unreliable characters, wry voices, exquisite pacing, and a twisting plot, Steadman potently draws upon her acting chops. . . . A darkly glittering gem of a thriller from a new writer to watch."--Kirkus Reviews (starred review) "Captivating . . . daring . . . The threats and increasingly bad decisions accelerate with Bourne-like velocity. . . . Steadman [is] a newcomer worth watching."--Publishers Weekly "An unbearably tense debut with a knockout premise, Something in the Water had me hooked from the very first sentence. Thrilling and thought-provoking, it's the perfect beach read. I devoured it!"--Riley Sager, bestselling author of Final Girls…

What a waste of time, can I get my hours back? I was expecting a much bigger twist, not the obvious. And I never liked the main character, why did she have to be such a twit? ( )

Erin and Mark have a bright future before them. Erin makes documentary films. Mark is an investment banker. They have a picture perfect London wedding planned....the perfect food, the perfect venue, the perfect honeymoon.....the perfect couple. Until...... Things start to go south and the couple finds themselves faced with a decision that will completely change both their lives irrevocably. Their situation raises two huge questions: What would you be willing to do to secure your "dream'' life? And, how well do you really know those closest to you?

This book opens with a shocker.....and never lets up. I loved it! So delightfully intriguing with a sinister edge. This is definitely a story that provokes "What would I do in this situation?" thoughts. And side-eye glances at those around me wondering "What would THEY do if they were in it with me?'' Chilling story. Well written. Perfect pacing. Kept my attention from start to finish. Steadman takes a picture perfect couple and pulls their life apart bit by bit. And then introduces a simple object that harbors a choice. Something seemingly benign....just floating in the ocean. It's amazing how easily perfect can start to crumble. One choice. A path chosen. Consequences. Totally chilling. So much fun to read!!

Catherine Steadman is an actress. This is her first book. I will definitely read more by her....this was a very enjoyable, suspenseful book!

This first book for Steadman starts out the way I adore...just take my breath in the opening lines and then ask me to wait thru the entire novel to understand that start! I immediately liked Mark & Erin at the start as well so during the times of wordiness I was OK. I enjoyed being in Erin's POV . No one can say in advance how much these same circumstance would have changed them but great thought provoking to ask ourselves. How many times have you watched a Dateline episode and walked away saying "do we ever really know someone"? I'm not sure people always know themselves! But the ending..not truly a twist. That was always one of the options but Steadman didn't reveal it as well as required. Then after the "Who" was revealed did the author spend time setting up a book number two? I like a clear cut cliffhanger, one with meaning to ponder and avenues to play out in my mind. Don't leave the door cracked as if you lazily did so. BTW, I've already started Mr. Nobody as I do think Steadman has good story telling skill. ( )

Erin and Mark are getting married. Erin is a doc film maker doing a piece on people getting out of prison. Mark is an investment banker. Then Mark loses his job and Erin is filming Eddie Bishop a big mafioso type guy who wants her to break the rules. they scale down the wedding but not the honey moon to tahiti. While scuba diving they find a bag floating in the water. when they open it back in their room, it's full of a million $ and has a big bag of diamonds. there is also a cell phone and a gun. Mark goes back to where they found the bag and their is a plane crash under the water they appear to be russian. then Erin turns on the phone uh-oh ( )
