"I knew the girl was mine. The one I had been waiting for. But this girl, the right girl, somehow didn't hear me. My barks were not loud enough to reach her. I was not big enough to jump the fence and race to her. She walked steadily on with the three dogs on the leashes, and Gail reached down into the pen. "My goodness, Max, what is all the racket about?" she asked, lifting me up. "Careful, now! You'll make me drop you!" I wiggled and whined in her hands, frustrated and unhappy. She needed to let me down! I had to chase after that girl!"-- Page [4] of cover.… (lisätietoja)

First of all this book is amazing especially if you like animals and care about them, like I do. Before I review this book I should probably tell you that this book is through the dog, Max's, view. This book starts out in New York City at a pound where Max is born. Unlike all of Max's siblings Max is different he is very aggressive and doesn't want to be with a human. That is until he meets C.J. When Max meets C.J Everything changes. C.J is his girl and he needs to be with her.
however C.J can't adopt a dog. She is just visiting New York for advanced art classes, and staying with her mom's friend Jillian who doesn't like dogs. When C.J leaves to go home without Max, Max escapes the pound trying to find C.J. After a while Max does find C.J , but C.J just takes Max back to the pound. While there she receives bad news about Max. Max is overly aggressive to everyone except C.J, and is going to be put to sleep if no one adopts him by the end of the day. With how much C.J cares about animals she can't just let Max dies so she decides to to adopt him. You can guess how that goes though with Jillian. C.J has about a week left in NY and is doing all she can to keep Max but it isn't working. In the end Max saves Sneakers's, Jillian's precious cat's, life from a pit bull. She then ends up being allowed to keep Max and everything is happy.
I really enjoyed this book and it was a SUPER short read. (That might only be because I was sick and all I could do was read.) If you read A Dog's Purpose and enjoyed it you'll like this book too. This is like a shorter version of that book but only focusing on Max. I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 because I feel like it was too short and the dog wasn't as caring and dog-like as the dog in other books like this by W. Bruce Cameron were. Thanks for reading this book review I hope it helped you, and have a great day. ( )

Max is a tiny Yorkie with a big ego in this tale, a puppy born at the pet rescue center, now desperately needing a home. Grace is a girl displaced to the big city, struggling to find the self-confidence she needs to succeed. And Max’s Story is where they meet—a dog with a purpose, finding the person he was always meant to help; a dog with spirit, learning slowly that spirit doesn’t always have to be loud and dangerous; and a girl with talent just waiting to show itself.

Max’s Story is a middle-grade novel, set in New York, and told very convincingly from the dog’s point of view. The writing is warmly inviting, encouraging misfit readers to identify with the dog and understand how actions seem different from intent. Max, though tiny, is profoundly confident of his power, while Grace, the human protagonist and Max's designated friend, is afraid to trust her own talent. These over and under-confident characters must learn to work together in this tale, and the story grows to a satisfying ending (but don’t fail to read the “bonus chapter” which brings things really to a close).

Wise questions and lesson plans fill the gap between last and bonus chapters in this small book. They’re helpful and well-designed—perhaps they’re inserted there to encourage readers to read them, and they’re well worth reading, though slightly distracting. Like I said, don't miss that "bonus" ending.

A very fun short novel for kids and their carers.

Disclosure: I borrowed this book from a friend. ( )
