My oldest son brought this down from his room as a part of his "books I am ready to release into the world" pile and I snagged it to read myself first. I found it very cute, especially with all the first teen relationship "this person is now my boy/girlfriend, now what?" panic vibes. I really liked Jorge as a character.

Quick enjoyable read if you are looking for those awkward junior high relationship feels. ( )

Jorge is such a good male role model. Both masculine and a feminist, strong and respectful... Props to Svetlana Chmakova. ( )

What a delight to return to this immensely awkward middle school series -- mostly because I think they capture the awkwardness so incredibly well, but the characters have so much heart that you just want to hang out with them and root for them and see them come through for each other. This one is ALL about the unexpected, undesired crush, and how that can sometimes work out. Jorge is a little too good to be true, to be honest -- he's so firm in his convictions and his role, but hey, we need more Jorges in the world, so I'm just enjoying reading his story. Love the terrifyingly tough PE teacher in the hijab, love the way the kids negotiate online bullying and the school takes an active hand. Good stuff. ( )

This book was so pure! I loved every second of reading this graphic novel! It was well written and had beautiful art as well! I am definitely going to look into the other novels Svetlana Chmakova wrote! ( )

Jorge is such a sweet kid and the issues he experiences in middle school are certainly relatable--with Chmakova's winning illustration and storyline, this is another great graphic novel that kids will eat up. ( )
