This not quite the newest abridged version of the Dewey Decimal Classification System, it being the 14th edition. I bought it to help set up my home library. I found that while it WAS usable for that purpose, you can set up a library without it. There are many online resources to help you classify your books. For a home library, you really don't need the full version or the most up-to-date abridged version unless your home library is something like that found in Windsor Castle. If that is the case, then budgeting is probably not a problem for you and you can afford the most up-to-date full version to go along with your most recent World Book encyclopedia. I would say go ahead get this one, "just because", if your budget will allow it, but otherwise there are other options like The Library Thing and http://classify.oclc.org/. ( )

An abridged version of the full Dewey classification volumes, the Dewey abridged 14 aids the cataloger in assigning Dewey classification numbers to materials. It includes an introduction that is actually quite helpful; tables; the schedules themselves; and the ever-glorious and useful (no sarcasm!) relative index. A must-have for any librarian in any setting. ( )
