So this was a sweet story about a missed opportunity that came back around in a really awkward way....

I loved the hot beachy getaway part; the jilted bride (or wife, as it were) was also exceptionally vivid for me. I loved the hero-sweet and dirty....

But the boys in this book resorted to fisticuffs so much it didn't even feel tolerable. And by the end, the villainous character was essentially a cartoon, but stalker. I guess what I thought began as a sweet and sexy (and fun and dirty) romp ended up being downgraded by the need to exhibit alpha-ness and add drama that didn't feel like it made the plot or characters progressed--Something my friend, Gaufre, has told me is called "trouble" rather than conflict. 2.5 for the unraveling, waste of a good set-up, end. A bonus night for Amalie, two gorgeous men are interested in her, but which one will she choose? I'm not saying, you'll have to read this wonderful story.
Amalie has reached a turning point in her life, it's been forced upon her actually, but she takes it with all guns blazing and a strength she never knew she had. Her situation was intolerable, and I truly felt for her. But the story is written with such great witty dialogue and funny scenes, it had me grinning like a loon or just laughing out loud. It's a great, fun read, and generously enhanced with hot, bedroom action.
There's a little angst with a backdrop of tension to be dealt with too for Amalie, but her hero was always there for her. ( )

We finally got Amalie story.....I have been waiting for this. I love Helena Hunting, she is a genius. So this book is a little different than what I am used to reading from Helana. Amalie's and Lex's love story was sad, everything that Amalie had to go thru, actually both of them. I hate, hate Armstrong, what a vile individual. I was so happy to read that both Amalie and Lex, finally get together, they deserved each other. The only thing that I was not happy with was that to me Brittany Whoreson, got away with her despicable act. I felt something worse should have happened to her, I disliked immensely...All in all, it was good. Enjoy! ( )

Hooking Up by Helena Hunting

Wow! Amazing book!

*Amalie “Amie”
*Lexington “Lex”
*The story
*The way the story was written
*The character development
*The steamy scenes
*The dialogue
*The smiles on my face while reading
*Knowing what Amie and Lex are thinking – first person telling of the story from both points of view

*Armstrong – everything about his irredeemable sorry a**
*Armstrong’s family
*The need for secrecy

Amie just wants to get it right one time in the boyfriend department and thinks she has done so with Armstrong – in spite of a few misgivings. She is sure she has made another boyfriend mistake again when Armstrong’s moans of ecstasy are broadcast over a loudspeaker at the wedding reception shortly after vows have been taken. A speedy retreat, a trip to Bora Bora, a hot hunk to soothe her hurt heart while on Bora Bora and then trying to mop up and set her life in order during the rest of the book made for a riveting read.

Lexington is the man who saw Amie first and when he disappeared for a minute his cousin, Armstrong, moved in on her. The cousins have a history of unhealthy rivalry that was perhaps a catalyst to the events in this book. When Lex is given the opportunity to “help” Amie when they find themselves going to Bora Bora on the same flight…well…let’s just say that Amie finds she very well may have chosen the wrong cousin.

I won’t give details away. I will say I believe I have found a new author I want to read more of. Knowing that there is a book written before this one that stars Amie’s friend (Ruby) and Lex’s brother (Bane) makes me want to get my hands on “Shacking Up”. I will also say that Lex is one of the BEST book boyfriends I have run across in recently AND that Amie is the perfect woman to be his partner. [Fanning myself as I remember some of the scenes ;) ]

Well…as you can see…I loved everything about this book except what I was supposed to dislike and it was SO easy to dislike Armstrong! I thoroughly endorse this book and look forward to reading anything this author writes in the future!

Thank you to NetGalley and St. Martin’s Press for the ARC – This is my honest review.

I received a copy of this novel from the publisher via NetGalley.

Off-putting and irrelevant cover photo. After her wedding reception goes horribly wrong (see blurb) Amelie decides to go on her honeymoon to Bora Bora alone. Except that the man sitting next to her on the plane (completely coincidentally, on a business trip) is the man who witnessed her humiliation in the most detail.

I enjoyed this story; the wedding reception scene is truly excruciating and Amelie and her new man are sweet together. The part set in Bora Bora consists of Amelie drinking extraordinary amounts of champagne and having a lot of sex, but fortunately once back in the US something resembling a plot re-emerges. I never felt I quite got to the bottom of who Amelie really was and what she had seen in Armstrong, her appalling husband, but I hated Armstrong so much I would have applauded her doing anything that made him suffer.
