I found this a couple of days ago in a box of books that hadn't yet been sorted, in a second hand shop that I frequent. It was published in 2003, but you know, Maxine is timeless. It's been fun to read, and a good escape from reality, and I thank Hallmark for publishing it, and am glad that I happened to see it peeking out of the box. Aging disgracefully seems worthwhile. I think I'll try it for a while. If you happen upon this, you should buy a copy, and read it. A little laughter is good now and then. This was one of those gems that I got in a book club white elephant gift exchange. Sadly, this book describes my life a little more than I'm comfortable with and I'm not even 30 yet! As Maxine says, "Like good wine, I grow more mellow with age. And, as I age, I grow more mellow with wine." This little gift book contains dozens of "Maxine-isms," i.e. hilarious musing about life an aging. She's crass and sassy and it's impossible not to like her little comics. An amusing quick read. näyttää 3/3 ei arvosteluja | lisää arvostelu

Maxine (the character) is a bit irreverent and blunt. Sometimes that's good; sometimes it's not. The points made are generally true--some hit humorously and others not so much (for me at least). There's a lot of truth (which is a bit disconcerting at times, but also nice to know that you're not the only person experiencing that particular thing or thinking that particular thing). ( )
