"I've only dared to read it in the daylight." --Kaly Soto, Deputy Weekend Editor, the New York Times Book Review At the end of a dark prairie road, nearly forgotten in the Kansas countryside, is the Finch House. For years it has remained empty, overgrown, abandoned. Soon the door will be opened for the first time in decades. But something is waiting, lurking in the shadows, anxious to meet its new guests... When best-selling horror author Sam McGarver is invited to spend Halloween night in one of the country's most infamous haunted houses, he reluctantly agrees. At least he won't be alone; joining him are three other masters of the macabre, writers who have helped shape modern horror. But what begins as a simple publicity stunt will become a fight for survival. The entity they have awakened will follow them, torment them, threatening to make them a part of the bloody legacy of Kill Creek.… (lisätietoja)

KILL CREEK BY SCOTT THOMAS is to me like a roller coaster. It starts, out of the station really slow going up that first hill and before you get back to the station and the end of the ride there is that final gut wrenching drop! Its the ups and downs of the book that frustrated me . Just when you think, going thru the dull parts &, yes there are dull parts, you get a shock that wakes up up and scares the pants off of you. Then ending, (I will not blab on that!) will shake you silly !

In my humble opinion, I would have cut out several hours of the approximately 11 hour audible book and it would have been a perfect book. ( )

The Haunting of Hill House + The Shining + The Last Broadcast

Justin Wainwright has been blessed with a filthy rich dad. He is able to start up a passion project, a website meant to bring new fans to the horror genre. He comes up with a sure fire way to make his project the next big thing. He invites the four most influential horror authors for an interview to be live-streamed Halloween night. However, there’s a fifth star, and the biggest. Kill Creek. It’s a house that urban legends are made of.

I ADORED this book! I got off gabbyreads’ rec. but she’s right. WHY don’t more people talk about this book? This reminds me of the horror I grew up with: classic King, Shirley Jackson, Edgar Allen Poe. Where the scares come not from the gore, but what is unseen and has to be guessed. There is plenty of blood and guts to go with the psychological scares, don’t worry!! Thomas did a masterful job in character building. Each character, primary, secondary, and even the ones we never meet, are completely fleshed out. I didn’t want this book to end!!

Buy this for yourself or someone who wants classic horror. Or, if you’re twisted, get it for a budding author. ( )

I love haunted house stories. Always have. I was really in the mood to read some good ones...so I posted on Goodreads asking for suggestions from friends. Several people recommended Kill Creek, so I grabbed the audio book.

Wow! I'm so glad they suggested this book -- it's a great haunted house story! And a great listen on audio!

The audio book is almost 16 hours long and narrated by Bernard Setaro Clark. Clark has a nice voice and reads at a steady pace. I have partial hearing loss that at times makes audio books difficult to understand, but I was easily able to hear and understand this entire book. Listening to this story added another dimension to its creepiness....there's just something about having a scary tale read to you!

The basics: Four horror writers are invited to a Halloween night interview session at a famous haunted house. The Finch House in Kansas has a reputation for being haunted and dangerous. The house has been closed for decades, but has been cleaned and prepared for this publicity stunt. Video and audio from the interview will be streamed live, posted online and used every which way to gain attention for the media outlet sponsoring it, and the authors themselves. But turns out the attention and online exposure is not enough to make a night in the Finch House worth it. The cost to all involved will be high.

I loved this book! The plot is very creepy and suspenseful! I liked how all of the authors write in the horror genre, but they are all very different from each other. Each one reacts to the situation differently as well. The story is well-written and kept my attention from beginning to end. And speaking of the end....I didn't see it coming. Lots of twists and turns in this tale!

Great listen! So happy my friends at Goodreads recommended this one! ( )

Giving this one a 2. Got it from audible because it had such high ratings here...i'm glad it worked for others, but I have to say, I really wasn't a fan of this book. I found the characters very one note, the female characters were incredibly stereotypical, and it seemed to fall prey to the majority of horror movie tropes. The narrator was good, but I just couldn't get into this book. ( )

The rising tension is palpable in this psychological horror. Four best-selling horror authors are invited to spend Halloween night in a supposedly-haunted house in Kansas—a cheap publicity stunt conceived by an Internet mogul that takes a much darker turn than any of them expected.
