I love the concept of this one more than I did the actual execution. It's got a lot of potential, but I think it was a combination of a mostly unskilled artist making some of the characters hard to differentiate, that then confused a somewhat convoluted plot.

But the idea of the Hatfields and the McCoys as vampires with a longstanding feud, along with creepy Nosferatu grampa and Perry, the kid with the same mental powers as creepy grampa, is just goddamn story gold.

I'm not expecting the art to improve, which is a shame, because with a proper artist (read, some person who doesn't scribble when they draw) this series could be something stunning, and yet another high water mark for both Cates and a talented artist.

But, because it's Cates, and because it's such a cool concept, I'm continuing on with this series. Let's see what else they have for me. ( )

A family of vampires living quietly running the BBQ joint in a small Texas town are forced to face their past when a generational feud is rekindled. Underneath the inevitable blood and violence this is a thoughtful piece on immortality, prejudice, and purpose. ( )
