Finally bought this second hand as one of the few Murray Bailey books I haven't got. A great story, really enjoyed this book - unputdownable. i thought I had won it as a Legacy Member Giveaway - not sure what happened there. Once again I am indebted to LibraryThing for providing this ebook to read and impartially review. This book starts like an Hitchcock film with an ordinary innocent bloke accused of murder without even a body, is released on a technicality and returns home to solve the mystery, and quite a mystery it turns out to be. This is a completely engrossing riveting page turner, a complex story with more than enough twists and turns to keep my aged brain guessing. Highly recommended. Black Creek, White Lies is a multi-stranded thriller centered around the disappearance of teenager Jade Bridger, and the subsequent arrest and imprisonment of local boatyard owner, Dan Searle. On his release he sets out to clear his name and uncovers a situation both darker and more complicated than Jade’s disappearance. I’m not usually a reader of crime/thrillers so it’s difficult for me to comment fairly on the writing style. The book is easy to read and I wanted to keep on going; it’s definitely a page-turner! For me, the plot moved almost too fast. There was no time to absorb one situation before we were propelled into the next and I did find it difficult to keep track of all the characters and events and how they connected together. As I said though - this is not a genre I’m familiar with so perhaps I just need more practice! The Cornish setting is portrayed well as is Dan’s love for his natural home. There was plenty of backstory for Dan too, and interesting explorations of his relationships with his family and the women in his life. I did guess the conclusion - at least in part. It’s topical certainly. And I felt the key element - what happened to Jade - was glossed over. Her ordeal wasn’t conveyed adequately for my liking. Overall though, a good read: fast-paced, intricate and for me at least - a local setting! Tämä arvostelu kirjoitettiin LibraryThingin Varhaisia arvostelijoita varten. Late one night, teenager Jade disappears from near Dan's boatyard. The last man to see her, Dan is naturally a suspect. 18 months after her disappearance Dan returns to the boatyard to find he is still viewed with suspicion by locals and police. Determined to prove his innocence, Dan and his ex-girlfriend investigate.A thiller with intersecting plots, Black Creek, White Lies should capture your attention. *i received a copy of this book in return for a fair and honest review Tämä arvostelu kirjoitettiin LibraryThingin Varhaisia arvostelijoita varten.
