I did really enjoy The Who-done-it aspect. Would recommend to my fellow readers. ( )Tämä arvostelu kirjoitettiin LibraryThingin Varhaisia arvostelijoita varten. Blood on the Beach was an interesting, fast-paced read for me. I enjoyed the plot and was interested in how everything would play out. I thought the characters were a little flat which took away from the overall execution, but overall it wasn’t an enjoyable read. *Received an ARC in exchange for an honest review Tämä arvostelu kirjoitettiin LibraryThingin Varhaisia arvostelijoita varten. Basically, eight teenagers who had run ins with the law are sent to an island to live with three counselors for a week and basically heal with nature. Of course, things start to go wrong when a teenager goes missing and someone dies. The premise of this book is really good, but the execution was not all that I hoped. The setting was fun and creepy - an island filled with teens with rough pasts and even criminal histories. I liked the idea of hearing from two perspectives, but the book felt disjointed because of it. The characters were entertaining but not necessarily deep or well-developed. The plot moved quickly, but stalled toward the end with a random ending. The resolution had no lead up or clues - it seemed completely out of the blue. Overall, it was a fun and fast-paced read with some suspense and light humor. I actually really enjoyed this book, and if you're in the mood for a light, fun book, then I would recommend this! The teenagers each have a different history of troubled or illegal behavior ranging from drug problems to violence. The teens each tell their story during the course of the book and some are more believable and compelling than others. The book alternates viewpoints between Caleb, sent to the Island for justifiably beating up his stepfather, and Alice, sent for having a few beers at a party. Shortly after arriving on the island, one of teens disappears setting off a whodunit where everyone is a suspect. The teens must rely on themselves and each other to solve the mystery and get back to civilization alive. The set up and the potential plot of this book was intriguing but I think the execution fell a little short. The characters were likeable but a little flat and I didn't feel much of connection to any of them. The mystery was interesting but the ending and the climax felt rushed and ultimately wasn't very satisfying. I feel like the book had potential but fell short of what it could have been. I was provided with a free copy of the book by the publisher in exchange for an honest review through the Early Reviewers Program. This book is about a group of troubled teenagers that ended up on a correctional program on an island, instead of going to jail. They are all in the program for different things: drugs, alcohol, assault, being gay. What starts as a lame spiritual journey, ends up with one of them disappearing. This book would make a good B Movie. It is exciting, makes you wonder (sometimes), but fails to make you feel for the characters or feed that wonder in any chapter. The ending was so flat. There were no games, no smart moves, no false hopes. That ending- a 10 year old could have written this ending. Writing style was good. Few grammatical errors. Easy to follow. I also can see the writer has a potential. There were parts in the book where she gave me hope, but always failed to deliver the final punch. 3 stars. ei arvosteluja | lisää arvostelu

Eight teens are dropped off on a remote west-coast island for a week-long treatment program called INTRO (Into Nature to Renew Ourselves). The story is told by two of them: Alice, whose police-officer mother believes Alice might have a substance-abuse problem, and Caleb, who assaulted his abusive stepfather. They are joined by six other miscreants and three staff: a psychologist, a social worker and an ex-cop. On the first night, one of the girls disappears from her cabin. There is a panicked search of the island, but she is nowhere to be found. The adults seem oddly ineffectual in dealing with the crisis--and then the ex-cop gets sick and dies. The radio has been sabotaged, and there is no way to call for help. When the social worker also becomes ill, the kids decide to take matters into their own hands and track down the killer.
