THE BEGINNING OF THE END . . . In 1972, when Veronica Pace was nine years old, she watched a masked intruder brutally murder her mother. Now a seasoned FBI agent, Veronica is determined to hunt down her mother's killer, still at large after twenty years. The old police records classify the crime as a burglary gone wrong. But Veronica and her lover, psychiatrist Harry Kline, uncover disturbing traces of a more subtle and intimate violence--a trail of terrifying threats, deep-seated hatred, and ruthless betrayals. Meanwhile, a murderer is once again on the prowl. . . . Kirjastojen kuvailuja ei löytynyt. |

My Rating
3/5
This book is part of a series. I haven't read the rest of the books in the series. I am guessing this is one of the last books as I assume it wraps up a subplot that was carried throughout the series of Veronica wondering who murdered her mother.
The story is told from the boyfriend's perspective (I forget his name) which I felt was a missed opportunity. He is a widower with a teenage daughter who apparently keeps getting mixed up in these mystery cases.
I thought Veronica was a more interesting character and the narrator was sometimes frustrating. He didn't really care who killed Veronica's mother he just wanted her to resolve the issues that were impeding their relationship. I didn't dislike the narrator I just wasn't all that interested in him and sometimes his motives and the way he treated Veronica really bothered me. I also wasn't invested in their relationship and since the whole point of solving the mystery is so the characters can get married and live happily ever after, I wasn't invested in the stakes of the story.
The mystery itself was just ok. I didn't guess who the murderer was before it was revealed but I also didn't have much of a reaction to who the killer was.
There were several things that happened after the murderer was revealed that I was not a fan of and overall I did not enjoy the ending of the book though this wasn't because of who the murderer is revealed to be.
It wasn't a terrible mystery. It just wasn't one that I really enjoyed. ( )
