The crew of the Bechimo are hiding out in a pocket of "safe space". They encounter the fresh wreckage of an ancient starship and rescue 3 survivors. The ship was escaping the ancient cataclysm at the end of the old universe and had been trapped in time. The survivors are two genetically engineered soldiers who are carrying out the last mission of their unit.

Pretty satisfying addition to the series. Not as good as the main books in the series (Agent of Change through I Dare) but I felt like we got a fairly good handle on Theo , Win Ton and Bechimo. This was mostly a things are moving along book. (

I adore these books, and they fill my specific needs for both aliens, and character-driven scifi. HOWEVER, her books seem to consistently end before the denouement and I am perpetually dissatisfied. I can't even call it a cliff-hanger, there's just the lack of a poignant reunion, and she'll open the next book with the ending of the previous one. FRUSTRATING. (

A Liaden Universe novel is like comfort food to me. This one features pilot Theo Waitley and her sentient spaceship Bechimo. Though most Liaden Universe fans seem to like the story arc and characters introduced in Agent of Change, the first book in the series, I'm quite fond of the Theo Waitley storyline and look forward to reading the next adventure. (
