Thank You Harlequin, Sarah Morgan and Netgalley for allowing me to review this book xx liked the cover as soon as I saw it. The purple/pink combination is a favourite of mine. The story had me hooked. It was so heartwarming with a hint of double entendre that I loved. Susan Morgan is so talented I always look forward to reading her books and thus one certainly did not disappoint. A great beach, poolside or garden read. *I was provided an ARC by the publisher via NetGalley in exchange for my honest opinion!* I'm a longtime fan of Sarah Morgan. She is so wonderful at characterization, and this holds true in this second installment in the "From Manhattan with Love" series! I also love the humor woven in with the more serious aspects of of the story, which is at times so heartfelt and painful. Whew, poor Frankie has issues (just don't let this tough girl hear you calling her "poor Frankie". She is complicated and deeply wounded (unbeknownst to all but her very closest friends), although the root of her wall-building and anti "happily ever after" mindset is slowly revealed over the course of the story. Matt has known Frankie for years, as she and his sister are long-time friends. She's a tough cookie, sure, but he has no idea how much she is hiding with that tough exterior. Thrown together on a landscaping job, the tension mounts quickly. I do love a story where both sides are secretly loved each other from afar and not known it! However, despite the mutual admiration, Frankie's walls are tough to tear down and Matt has to work hard at earning her trust. This story also takes us on a fun trip to Puffin Island - a coming home to meet old friends if you are a long-time Sarah Morgan reader, and an impetus to pick up her Puffin Island series if you aren't. (If you are in the latter, however, don't despair - all of her books function well as stand-alones.) This was a one-sitter for sure for me, and I'm looking forward to the Eva - the third friend in this trio of strong women - finally getting her happily ever after! Full review at Little Book Jockey. One thing I really like about this series is that I can find things in each of the characters that I can relate to. With Frankie, it’s her struggle with bravery and vulnerability and realizing that the two often coexist, that it’s sometimes the bravest thing we can do when we let our emotions show through. Shelving this as brother's best friend even though it's best friend's brother...cause...convenient. It was a sweet story; I don't have too many negatives. My major problem was the hero (Matt) was utterly perfect. I think he might've been a protective jackass of his sister in the prior book, but here he makes no mistakes. None. He even knew how to handle Frankie's reluctance better than her own best friend. He shows her great sex the first time. He makes her realize she needs to move on from her past, while simultaneously convincing her to start a future with him. Matt's been in love with Frankie since forever. He's a miracle worker. If this sounds snarky, maybe it's meant to be....the book was light and readable but if I were looking for a hero similar to this I'd probably fall back to [b:Wild at Whiskey Creek|29436302|Wild at Whiskey Creek (Hellcat Canyon, #2)|Julie Anne Long|https://images.gr-assets.com/books/1473678817s/29436302.jpg|49704361] (of course)...or friends to lovers that is [b:Sutphin Boulevard|25404499|Sutphin Boulevard (Five Boroughs, #1)|Santino Hassell|https://images.gr-assets.com/books/1435776893s/25404499.jpg|45158379] with a patient, steady, dependable guy, or slow burn new to each other but friends first [b:The Hot Shot|29541797|The Hot Shot (Game On, #4)|Kristen Callihan|https://images.gr-assets.com/books/1489760751s/29541797.jpg|49842497] It was cute, and I won't hesitate to read another, but it's just not my favorite the genre has to offer. ei arvosteluja | lisää arvostelu

In the chaos of New York, true love can be hard to find, even when it's been right under your nose all along. Love has never been a priority for garden designer Frankie Cole. After witnessing the fallout of her parents' divorce, she's seen the devastation an overload of emotion can cause. The only man she feels comfortable with is her friend Matt-- but that's strictly platonic. If only she found it easier to ignore the way he makes her heart race. Matt Walker has loved Frankie for years but, sensing how fragile she is beneath her feisty exterior, has always played it cool. But then he uncovers new depths to the girl he's known forever and doesn't want to wait a moment longer. He knows Frankie has secrets and has buried them deep, but can Matt persuade her to trust him with her heart and kiss him under the Manhattan sunset? Kirjastojen kuvailuja ei löytynyt. |
