Drew Forrester is a total adrenaline junkie. His high of choice? Cars. The faster, the better. He's been making waves in Maryland's underground racing circuit since he crossed the state line, and after speaking with him, we know he's not hitting the brakes anytime soon. So what exactly does it take to burn rubber and make a name for yourself in a world where the only rule is that there are no rules? You gotta be hungry... You gotta have balls... And you can never back down. Contains mature themes.… (lisätietoja)

I think this book might be a little confused about what it wants to be.

The writing wasn't good (even for romance) but it also wan't the worst out there. This was structurally poor and the plot was completely unoriginal. The characters were caricaturish and the romance was corny and cliched. Not to mention the cheap ending, which left the romance completely unresolved with the mother of all romantic cliffhangers.

However. Where some books with the above mentioned qualities might have had me chucking the book in the nearest fire, this one made me giggle. There was next to no intentional humor in the book, but on the whole it tipped over on the ridiculous side, so I could read it as a parody where it went over board.

If I had to compare this to something, I'd say this book is the cheapest of chocolates (possibly meant for nonhumans) that no one would really choose to eat, but when the only other option is broccoli and you're just having one of those days, it's more than easy to devour the whole bar in one go.

I was super excited to see this book was coming out after losing a week's worth of sleep to the author's Hashtag series (which are basically 100% soap opera crack). I finished the last story and immediately wanted to wail, "But what about Drew and Trent???"

Thankfully, Hebert was way ahead of me. This is their story. It takes place after the end of the Hashtag series (except the prologue, which explains how Trent ended up in Drew's room completely wasted after a frat party) and all the favorite characters show back up. But where Drew and Trent took on a secondary role in the first series, the rest of the gang are background for Drew and Trent.

I loved this. It was perfect and I didn't want it to end. But of course it did, and with a cliffhanger--because, of course it did! (Though this isn't as bad as some of Hebert's other cliffhangers.) ( )

Fucking good!

After finishing some great m/m's in a row ..( Him, Us, Push, wicked lies boys tell, Red white and royal blue, heated rivalry) i was having an awful book hangover. Nothing i started was any good. I got 20 pages into a lot of highly recommended garbage.

And then this book fell into my lap. And it was good. The vibe is very close to Him and Us . That's s good thing. The book is hot. Not as hot as Push, but nothing ever will be.
Warning.. it does end in a cliffhanger but that just means i get a whole extra book out of this couple ( )

I have some mixed feelings about this book because I really liked the relationship between Trent and Drew but there were some other parts that I really did not enjoy.

I really did not like what was done with Joey's character. Joey is a women who races cars, like Drew. Everything she does is presented by as so different from any other women. She eats real food instead of only eating salads and drinking water. She drinks beer, which is apparently something women don't do. Characters are constantly talking about how they go beat by a girl. This is all stuff that I hate in books but when it's in a sort of gay for you book written by a woman, it beings to feel very much like girl hate and it sort of made me feel like this book was written as a gay romance because most women are boring. This book acknowledges that it is hard for Joey to be in a male dominated activity but it is apparently incapable of understanding that the same factors that make it hard to be a woman in a male dominated space also lead women to present themselves in certain ways.

I did really like parts of the story of Drew and Trent getting together. I really like friend to lover stories and I thought this one was really well done. I like the emotional backstory that friends to lovers stories have and you could tell that the two of them really did care about each other and had for a long time. I liked that they also worked together when it came to car racing. I did not love that this was a sort of gay for you story, at least for one party in the relationship. I don't like those types of stories because typically they could be presented as people figuring out their sexuality or discovering their actually bisexual without changing the plot much. Most gay for you stories seem to be unable to acknowledge that bisexual people exist and always have the characters going through an existential crisis and realizing they're actually gay. That isn't exactly the case here but it's pretty close and that just grinds my gears.

I know I just complained about a lot of things but I did enjoy this, especially the romance parts and I will probably read the next book, partially because this one ended on a cliffhanger and I want to know what happens. Maybe some of the issues I had will be resolved in later books. I kinda hope the romance will take center stage and there will be less angst about what it all means for their sexuality. I would recommend this for a very sweet friends to lovers story, especially if you know you won't be bothered by the things I was. ( )
