Rand's our POV character and he is very often an ass. It's entertaining, and no wonder Will surprises him. The dynamic is great, and so are the ones with Rand's bandmates, but he and Will's interactions are at the heart of why I enjoyed their story. I have three quibbles, one an important one for books; how it ends. First - aaargh, Rand's reflexes suck, several times. He's a stage performer, and I stopped believing it was realistic. Second, several times Rand's bossy in ways that reminded me unpleasantly of how males treated me, presumptuous and 'take charge.' I'd have loved for Will to call him on it. Last, the epilogue. 90% of it was made trivial by explaining to me what I'd just read, plus listing what's happened but not making it matter. We didn't need the epilogue. If you assume they make their lives work as a couple, you can skip it. And yet, I loved so much of this story, I still recommend it. WILL IS A SWEETHEART. 4.5 stars but rounded down because any romance that has me so worried it makes me feel physically sick can't get 5 stars. I had to put the book down at various points because I simply couldn't carry on reading. Once Leah was out of the picture my sickness disappeared and I was able to finish the last part of the book in one go. Even though the last part of the book made me cry. But tears I can handle, pushy, conniving groupies I obviously can't. Will is an adorable confusing mix of adorableness all wrapped up in glasses and freckles, glitter and sequins. Since the book is written solely in Rand's POV we never really know what's going on with Will until he chooses to tell us. Rand is all about his music, he wants fame but more because he knows it will get recognition for his music than for the fame itself. He's loud and brash, doesn't always think about how things he does and says impact on others. And then he meets Will. Don't get me wrong, he's still all those things but tempered in some way. As the story goes on Rand's priorities change, and so do Will's. The relationship in this story is fun, the banter and playfulness between Rand and Will feels real. This is the first Lane Hayes book I've read. It won't be the last. näyttää 5/5 ei arvosteluja | lisää arvostelu
Kuuluu näihin sarjoihin
Rand O'Malley dreams of superstardom. He hopes to one day sing the blues like a rock god. Moving to New York City and hiring a new manager are steps to make his dreams a reality. But nothing moves as fast as Rand would like, and everyone has opinions, for example that he should keep certain pieces of himself quiet if he plans on making it in the Big Apple. Like his bisexuality. Will Sanders is a gifted musician who dazzles Rand with his ability to coax gorgeous notes from an electric guitar one moment and play the piano like a professional the next. He's a geek, but Rand isn't concerned about Will's pressed exterior clashing with his tattoos. His focus is music. Yet there's something about Will that makes Rand think there's much more to the quiet college student than he lets on. As Rand's dreams begin to materialize, he's forced to reconsider his priorities and find his own kind of truth. One that might include Will. Kirjastojen kuvailuja ei löytynyt. |
