"The new novel from the New York Times bestselling author of The Devil Wears Prada and Revenge Wears Prada--a dishy tell-all about a beautiful tennis prodigy who, after changing coaches, suddenly makes headlines on and off the court. Charlotte "Charlie" Silver has always been a good girl. She excelled at tennis early, coached by her father, a former player himself, and soon became one of the top juniors in the world. When she leaves UCLA--and breaks her boyfriend's heart--to turn pro, Charlie joins the world's best athletes who travel eleven months a year, competing without mercy for Grand Slam titles and Page Six headlines. After Charlie suffers a disastrous loss and injury on Wimbledon's Centre Court, she fires her longtime coach and hires Todd Feltner, a legend of the men's tour, who is famous for grooming champions. Charlie is his first-ever female player, and he will not let her forget it. He is determined to change her good-girl image--both on the court and off--and transform her into a ruthless competitor who will not only win matches and climb the rankings, but also score magazine covers and seven-figure endorsement deals. Her not-so-secret affair with the hottest male player in the world, sexy Spaniard Marco Vallejo, has people whispering, and it seems like only a matter of time before the tabloids and gossip blogs close in on all the juicy details. Charlie's ascension to the social throne parallels her rising rank on the women's tour--but at a major price. Lauren Weisberger's novel brings us exclusive behind-the-scenes details from all the Grand Slam tournaments: the US Open, the French Open, the Australian Open, and Wimbledon. Charlie Silver jets around the globe, plays charity matches aboard Mediterranean megayachts, models in photo shoots on Caribbean beaches, walks the red carpet at legendary player parties, and sidesteps looming scandals--all while trying to keep her eyes on the real prize. In this sexy, unputdownable read about young tennis stars who train relentlessly to compete at the highest levels while living in a world obsessed with good looks and Instagram followers, Charlie must discover the secret to having it all--or finally shatter the illusion for good"--… (lisätietoja)

Some minor inaccuracies in the details if you are a tennis fan and the ending was pretty predictable, but a fun, quick beach read. Pretty much what I expected. ( )

This was a fun read, set in the world of high-stakes tennis matches. Charlie Silver is a professional tennis player determined to reach the top of her field, causing her to work with a stringent coach who drives her to go further and to play harder. But, amid the product endorsements and high-profile matches, Charlie starts to lose her own self, causing her to take actions she never would have considered before. Pieces of this story felt familiar, but in a good way and I got more into this book than I expected (I'm typically not a fan of anything about sports). It was also a little different from the things I've been reading recently and so it felt refreshing to me. ( )

Fun because it's tennis. Storyline, so-so at best. ( )

I kept reading in magazine after magazine how this was a must read summer book. That pulled me in, I'll admit it. But I never got that into the book.

Charlie has loved tennis since she was a little girl. Her family encouraged her talent but didn't push her.
She's in her twenties now and a tennis pro.
An accident forced her to reevaluate her life. She feels that if she's going to win the biggest matches, she needs a new coach.

So, Charlie drops the coach that's like a mom to her and hires a new coach that is tough as nails. He pushes Charlie to train harder than she ever has before, he makes her loose weight, encourages her to take an iffy relationship public and even to revamp her whole image.

Sometimes it's fun. She likes that she has definitely advanced her tennis skills and there are perks to being more famous but her personal life is getting complicated and she's not sure she likes herself or her life much anymore.

I wasn't a huge fan of Charlie. It's harder for me to get into a book when I'm not crazy about the main character.

Charlotte "Charlie" Silver has the good girl image down in the world of tennis. She's sweet, plays by the rules, her brother is her manager, and she keeps her personal life top secret. After a devastating injury at Wimbledon, Charlie needs to re-brand herself and re-train her mental and physical game. After letting her friend and longtime coach Marcy go, she hires Todd Feltner-a world renowned tennis coach who has never coached a woman before. Todd is brutal and pushes Charlie to her limits physically and mentally. He also hires a publicist and stylist to remake Charlie's image. After a series of questionable moves both on and off the court, Charlie is beginning to wonder if shedding her good girl image is worth winning a Grand Slam. Full of humor, heartache, and high society glam, "The Singles Game" is a fun read for any fans of chick lit.
