The second installment of the San Francisco Wolf Pack series doesn't really focus on the San Fran pack at all. So no worries if you haven't read the first book. I lurved the hero of this book, Jack MacGrath. Although he lives in San Fran, he doesn't interact with the pack and is a loner for all intents and purposes. A very rich loner... and a selfless one to boot. Jack is 320 years old, which is almost unheard of for an unmated wolf. Unfortunately, Jack is living on borrowed time and the only thing that will save him and extend his life by 700 years is to find his fated mate - his Luminary. He has looked high and low for his luminary and it doesn't look like he will ever find her. That all changes with a chance meeting at an art auction. The other protagonist in the story (I refuse to call her a heroine) is Isabelle Connelly, heir to the Irish Wolf Pack. As much as I liked Jack, I disliked Isabelle an equal amount. While I enjoyed the descriptions of her paintings and her slips into her Irish sayings/dialect, there weren't many other redeeming qualities to win her over in my eyes. I hate hate hated the way she treated Jack, and she didn't carry the qualities I would expect of a pack alpha. Of course some of this could have been my catty bitchface rearing its head because I wanted Jack for myself... but I don't think I can attribute it ALL to that (just 99% maybe). So I liked [b:Beauty and the Werewolf|25952931|Beauty and the Werewolf (San Francisco Wolf Pack, #2)|Kristin Miller|https://d.gr-assets.com/books/1437506307s/25952931.jpg|45831419] much better than [b:The Werewolf Wears Prada|25323002|The Werewolf Wears Prada (San Francisco Wolf Pack, #1)|Kristin Miller|https://d.gr-assets.com/books/1428522762s/25323002.jpg|45056324]. The characters seemed more dimensional and I did feel a strong connection to Jack and his plight. I will definitely keep reading to see the dynamics of future fated mate pairs. I received an advanced copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. 3.5 stars / 3 flames. This is the 2nd book in the San Francisco Wolf Pack series. This book was much better than the first. A lot more depth, emotionally as well as story wise. Isabelle Connelly's character is caught between a rock and a hard place; one being her Alpha wolf father whose battle with a rare form of cancer is coming to an end and the other Jack MacGrath, a reclusive lone wolf with no Luminary mate, so his lifespan is just about up. She has trained all her life to take over the pack. But her passion has always been her art, something that her father never appreciated nor encouraged. Her successful secret life as the artist Bella Nola is unknown to most. It's her last chance to show her true self to him. So she plans a private showing of all of her works and is now tracking them down to add to her display. Jack has spent the last 20 years staying high on adrenalin just so he can add on a bit more time. His love for art has been a source of comfort especially the works of Bella Nolan. He has 12 in his collection, the last one won in a bidding war between him and Isabelle. But a single touch gives him back the hope he had lost of finding his Luminary. In spite of the obvious attraction and the possibility of love Isabelle's loyalty to her pack is unshakeable and she refuses to even consider a mating. The MacGraths and Connellys are rivals, enemies even and her father will never give his consent for their mating even if it dooms Isabelle's fate to the same one Jack is currently facing. ARC provided in exchange for an honest review Review courtesy of Dark Faerie Tales Quick & Dirty: Feuds, love and werewolves, will they be able to overcome all the obstacles against them. Opening Sentence: “Painting in the middle of the night wasn’t all it cracked up to be.” The Review: Isabelle is an Irish werewolf that secretly paints. Her father has cancer and is dying and she wants to round up all her paintings and show him before he passes. She learns that Werewolf in Venice is up for auction in San Francisco. She makes plans to head that way, trying to be careful as it is MacGrath territory and her father is not welcome there. Nor, would he want her to go as there is a long standing feud between the two packs. She ends up in a bidding war with Jack, not knowing at the time that he is a MacGrath. He wins when she is distracted by a text message, but she still attempts to buy the painting from him. He refuses and she heads to his house later to try again. While there they finally shake hands and MacGrath knows immediately she is his mate or Luminary as they are called in the book. He doesn’t understand when she doesn’t seem to react the same way. He offers to let her have the painting if she goes on a date with him. He eventually admits to her that he has all the paintings and she admits that she is Bella the painter. Isabelle soon finds out that Jack is dying, he is over 300 years old and has not found his mate until he claims it is her. But just as she begins to admit she might feel the same, she receives a call from her pack. Her father is dying, as Isabelle returns home, will she be able to convince her father that it is okay that she is a painter and will she be able to convince him that this MacGrath isn’t like the others. This was a quick and easy read. I did read book 1, but I didn’t like it nearly as much as I did this one. I thought that the changes like an dying at certain age if unmated was really interesting. Not that some authors don’t have age limits, but they don’t incorporate that mate aspect as well. Plus, I loved Isabelle, she was intelligent and driven and so clearly cared about her father and her pack. Jack was great right from the start, despite his desperation he put her in front of his needs many times. So yes, I really loved this book, and if this is any indication, the series is only going to get better. Although I am worried because I did like the Irish pack and I hope they show up in future books. Notable Scene: “More than anything, she wanted her father to see all of her artwork together, in one place, before he closed his eyes and succumbed to the eternal sleep.” “Just like every other MacGrath in their nasty family line.” “As her laugh faded away, a quiver shook her to the core.” “And the she’d know, once and for all if this connection was based on lust or something deeper.” “A whisper of claiming and possession deep down in her soul.” “And was tackled from behind by three infuriated Irish wolves.” “His eyes went wide as sparks flared in his chest.” FTC Advisory: Entangled Publishing provided me with a copy of Beauty and the Werewolf. No goody bags, sponsorships, “material connections,” or bribes were exchanged for my review. Looking for something short and sweet with werewolves? Look no further than BEAUTY AND THE WEREWOLF. Jack is at the end of his life, unless he finds his mate. Isabelle loves to paint and wants nothing more than to make her father proud of her, but when she heads to San Francisco to find her paintings she ends up falling for the enemy and she isn't quite sure what her father will think of that. Both characters were easy to like on their own and I thought the couple had a good connection, but I wasn't totally attached to them like I have been with the previous couples in Miller's stories. Also, Jack wasn't actually part of the San Francisco Pack so I thought that was a bit odd. BEAUTY AND THE WEREWOLF was an easy read with lots of romantic drama. It can definitely be read as a standalone, so don't worry that it is part of a series. I enjoy Kristin Miller's stories so I will be on the lookout for her next book. * This book was provided free of charge from the publisher in exchange for an honest review. näyttää 5/5 ei arvosteluja | lisää arvostelu

This lone wolf falls hard... for his enemy. Unmated werewolves don't normally live past three hundred years old... and billionaire Jack MacGrath is cutting it close. Sure, he has almost everything - the respect of his peers, a mansion in San Francisco, a private jet, and fast cars. But without a mate, Jack's in trouble. Then he sees her. Gorgeous, proud... and his enemy. Isabelle Connelly is good at hiding things from her father. Like her success as a painter, or the incredibly intense attraction she has to Jack MacGrath. After all, she's royalty and falling for anyone lesser - to say nothing of a rival pack - would be, er, unseemly. Now she must choose between her duty to her family and her pack... or her perfect fated mate. Contains mature themes. Kirjastojen kuvailuja ei löytynyt. |
