This is the third book out of four, so obviously there is a lot here that is series plot and does not get resolved at the end of the book. However, the book plot—Jenny's story—does get fully resolved, and in a very satisfying way. ( ) 2 stars for the audiobook, 3 stars for the story, and 4 stars for Abigail Rook. So 3 stars. That's math, kids. Actually, I give Abigail 5 stars, but I'm not changing my math. While I liked the reader's performance of Abigail, her interpretations of other characters, especially Charlie and Jackaby, were not as enjoyable. She's a good reader, but some of accents she did made the characters sound weird. Jackaby came across as insufferable rather than eccentric. I will always love Abigail Rook, and her voice was the best part of this novel. Her understated responses to all hell breaking loose around her or to some shocking statement from Jackaby do make me smile. What I didn't enjoy was most of the book being set-up for the next. It was vexing when I realized that things weren't really winding down. It was build build build, a bit of resolution for one character, then more build, and then the end. Hmph. It's nothing to keep me away from the next book, of course. I think that the Jackaby series is one of the best YA series ever! And, I'm not a big fan of YA. It's just not a genre I read much from. But Jackaby is a brilliant series and the latest book, Ghostly Echoes is just like the previous two books absolutely great. I like that this book finally deals with the Jenny Cavanaugh mystery, something I have been waiting for since the first book. I like how in each book you learn more about the characters and the strange creatures in it that most people don't know about. Unlike Jackaby that has the ability to see them, and here we finally get an explanation for it. How his "gift" came to be. I loved reading this book. I find the characters are beautifully written with depth and the story is imaginative. And, I also love how funny and thrilling it is to read. If I had to recommend one YA series to someone that wanted something adventures and funny would I chose this one. It's a great book and I can't wait to see what the future have in store for jackable, Abigail, and Jenny. I want to thank Algonquin for providing me with a free copy for an honest review! ei arvosteluja | lisää arvostelu
