"The New York Times bestselling author of The Sound of Glass and coauthor of The Forgotten Room tells the story of a woman coming home to the family she left behind--and to the woman she always wanted to be.... Georgia Chambers has spent her life sifting through other people's pasts while trying to forget her own. But then her work as an expert on fine china--especially Limoges--requires her to return to the one place she swore she'd never revisit.... It has been thirteen years since Georgia left her family home on the coast of Florida, and nothing much has changed except that there are fewer oysters and more tourists. She finds solace in seeing her grandfather still toiling away in the apiary where she spent much of her childhood, but encountering her estranged mother and sister leaves her rattled. Seeing them after all this time makes Georgia realize that something has been missing--and unless she finds a way to heal these rifts, she will forever be living vicariously through other people's remnants. To embrace her own life--mistakes and all--she will have to find the courage to confront the ghosts of her past and the secrets she was forced to keep..."--… (lisätietoja)

I'm impressed with how White manages to get you to know her characters so well---you can see and hear all of them, no matter how complicated the story becomes. Although it was easy to early suspicions about how the book would evolve, I had certainly not figured out the details until the very end of the book. I've read several of Karen White's books but I'm glad I still have more to read! ( )

Beautiful writing.
The author has a way with words.
I felt like I really got to know that characters. I feel like I probably learned a lot about bees too.

I picked this book up because I enjoy this author's style, if you are new to Karen White's books this is a good one to start with.

It's a story of family secrets and forgiveness. This is a majorly fractured family and it takes a twist of fate, in the form of a man with a rare collection of china, to start the secrets unfolding.

I absolutely loved the character of James. He's practically a guardian angel.

I really enjoyed this book. Its definitely a genre that I navigate too. WWII survivors, the mix a past & present with a romance blooming, suspense and intrigue. Great read! ( )

Karen White always does a fantastic job of transporting the reader into her stories, and Flight Patterns is no exception. In Flight Patterns, the setting is Apalachicola, a small town on the Gulf Coast of Florida. Georgia, a fine china expert, has a client, James, who has brought china to her that she recognizes. She doesn't recognize it from a photo, however, but from a memory of her childhood in which she found a piece of china with the same pattern on it in the back of her mother's closet and was told to keep it a secret. Knowing that she recognizes it forces her to go back to a home she hasn't set foot in in ten years. As she and her sister, Maisy, begin to face the tragedies and hurt in their shared past, they dive deeper into the mystery of the rare china with a bee pattern that somehow ended up with James' family in New York, and with their family in Apalachicola. From the descriptions of her grandfather's bees and the way they behave, to the descriptions of the depth of emotion brought out in each person for various reasons, Karen White paints a picture of these families, making you feel as if you are not only a bee on the wall of their home, but as if you were part of the family itself. I highly recommend this book, and loved the twists and turns it took! ( )

Fun read. A story about a mom and two sisters and the things that makes a family dysfunctional and how it sometimes takes a tragedy to bring you to deeper understanding of the one's you love.

My favorite quote from the book "Regrets are like porch swings. They keep you busy, but take you no where." ( )
