A fantastically funny series from Alan MacDonald and David Roberts, creator of Dirty Bertie, Angela Nicely is already well known to Bertie's fans after he struggled to escape her clutches in Kiss!Angela Nicely might look like she's made of sugar and spice and all things nice, but she's not quite as sweet as she'd have you believe! Perfect for young readers who are fans of Dirty Bertie. Whether she's having a bake-off against Tiffany Charmers, riding high at a pony party or snooping on her mysterious neighbours, she's determined to steal the show! With fantastic artwork by award-winning illustrator, David Roberts (Tyrannosaurus Drip, The Wind in the Willows, The Troll, Eddie DickensTrilogy), these deliciously funny stories are perfect for confident readers to enjoy by themselves, or for sharing with your child. Angela Nicely is sure to delight young readers, with her larger-than-life personality and her desire to be the best! Kirjastojen kuvailuja ei löytynyt. |

Angela Nicely is the long suffering girl next door with the crush on young Bertie, (who has as Dirty Bertie his own series).
Here we are able to read her stories and the young girl sure finds her own voice, but I have to agree, Angela and Bertie together, it sure would work out very nicely.
The book contains three different adventures of little Miss Nicely and each of them is divided into 3 or 4 small chapters. Together with David Roberts' fabulous cartoon style illustrations they are the perfect size for kids, who have just started to read their first chapter books.
Cupcake Wars! tells us what happens when smart Angela and her rival Tiffany Charmers each run their own cupcake stall at the Spring Fair at school. Their teacher, Miss Darling, certainly doesn't have it easy to keep the two from fighting.
I love Angela's spirit. She isn't one to give up easily and her final cupcake creation does even delight little Bertie. What more can a girl want?
In Pony Party! Angela is invited to Tiffany Charmers' birthday party. As the two are passionate rivals, something doesn't sound quite right. Sure enough, tricky Tiffany had her very own plans, why she wanted her classmate to come along.
But you never know, things can turn out completely different and it might not be the Birthday girl, who has the last laugh.
Pony Party is my favourite story of the three, because the illustrations alone, with little Angela clinging desperately to a rather tall horse, it's just pure fun.
Neighbourhood Watch! is the last of the three stories and here Angela's parents have joined the local Neighbourhood Watch group and Angela decides, she wants to help, too and starts spying at the neighbour opposite, grumpy Mr. Monk.
He actually behaves rather strange and when she sees him wearing a balaclava inside his house, she is sure, Mr. Monk is a burglar.
Angela has already an idea, where the stolen goods are, but is that so?
Angela Nicely's stories are as much a delight as the Dirty Bertie ones. Alan MacDonald has again delivered a hugely enjoyable book for young readers. David Roberts' artwork is as always the perfect match.
Highly recommended. ( )
