Thyme must move from California to New York because her little brother needs to be in there to receive treatment at a special hospital. Thyme is not excited about leaving her home or friends, so she decides to not let New York or it's people into her heart. She is trying to save up time slips from her parents to put her secret plan to go back home into place. Her new neighbor also throws a wrench into things by constantly yelling at her family to quiet down! Thyme just wants to go back home and for her brother to be better immediately. A great team of relatable characters and realistic circumstances. ( )

Sweet but not too saccharine. Thyme has to move from California to nyc with her family so her little brother can be in a cancer trial. All she wants is to go home so she earns slips of time by doing chores, hoping to collect enough to earn a trip to see her best friend. Friend, family and neighbor issues all woven together and not a magical happy ending but a realistically hopeful one. ( )

Thyme loves her life in California, especially her relationship with her best friend Shani. When Thyme's little brother's cancer treatment forces the family to move to New York City, Thyme vows to return as soon as she can. She earns free time from her parents for chores and resolves to save it up for a return trip to CA, but soon enough she is making friends in her new city. ( )

Loved this. Great middle grade read. The story of a young girl and her family grappling with her brothers cancer. I thought the author did an excellent job of allowing the reader to appreciate each characters perspective. Many familiar themes, moving, loneliness, fitting in, a difficult diagnosis etc but very well done. Would recommend to both the intended audience and adults who enjoy this genre. ( )
