first off as always I want to thank NetGalley the author and St. Martin's press for my advanced copy of this amazing book. I don't have anything negative to write out side of the fact that I wish I had known about this author sooner this is my first Donna Grant read and she definitely has a fan in me I have already purchased book one so I will work my way back slowly! now on to the story.

SMOKE AND FIRE by Donna Grant is the ninth action-packed installment in the author's Dark Kings series featuring her sexy Scottish dragon-shifters. The idea of starting a series backward is amusing to me but the author has such depth to her characters that I instantly want to see how each couple i met was formed and the journey they took.

Ryder fell in love with a mortal Kinsey. But one night he left her without a word and he never came back . Then one night Kinsey saw Ryder's true form and she run away from him. Heartbroken and disappointed Kinsey tried to lead a normal life and Ryder never went back thinking that she deserved a normal life , little did they know that all this time Ryder never stopped loving her and she never stopped loving him. Fast forward three years later they are forced to work together by forces that put their past love to the test and put their future in jeopardy! this gets 5 Shifter stars from me. the family bond the chemistry is perfect! if you are looking to get hooked on a new author Donna Grant has you hook line and sinker with her Dragons ( )

Ryder and Kinsey were lovers 4 years ago when Ryder felt himself falling in love and decided he had to disappear. At the time he didn't know the spell to prevent the Kings from falling in love with mortals was broken...he never mentioned her or the feelings he had for her.

Flash forward 3 years to the battle in Edinberg and there is Kinsey with a Dark baring down on her, out to kill her...Ryder comes to her rescue, in dragon form, then shifts in front of her...what's a girl to do? Scream and run the other way!

Another year has passed, Kinsey still longs for Ryder but knows life must go on and her job for some high tech company is thriving and filling all those empty hours. Until one day she gets a work order for installing some monitors and Dreagan....um, can you guess what happens next?

While our two love birds finding one another, relearning their love is still strong and Ryder trying to get Kins to trust him is heart warming and keeps us reading it's the other things going around them that had me hooked on this book!

Henry, MI5 Henry, has a sister....who's working under cover....WHAT???

Rhi and her watcher; she's talking to him and while he won't answer her verbally he communicates with her with touch, how much longer before she finds out who and what he is? Although our girl is smart and starting to put some very vague and interesting clues together. I get the loneliness and heartbreak after her King dumped her but Bad Boy Balladyn. Okay, make him her rebound guy and that's about it. He can still be her friend and they can do a booty call from time to time but nothing long term...please. Also...she saw Ulrik teleport....the Kings need to know this Rhi, you have to tell at least Rhys sooner rather than later!!! Oh and the magazine cover....can't wait until she shows it to Con!

For being smart these Kings have tunnel vision....all these clues that there is something more than just Ulrik to contend with. They know he has to have a big network, they have an eyewitness that the man looked like Ulrik with a little difference here and there. PLUS Ulrik can't be found, if they get the teleport news will they clue in to just how much magic has been recovered?

All these things are going to have to come to a head and I can't wait. Kings have an idea that Con is doing Usaeil and that when Rhi finds out it's going to be one hell of a showdown. The Reapers are eventually going to be outed by all the cleaning up of the dark they had been doing before and with Rhi on the hunt for more information on them. Who's Ulrik's spy at Dreagan? And just how much more of Mikkel's b.s. will he be willing to put up with?

The romances are sweet but the secondary story is starting to be more of the attraction for me! Can't wait for the next one.
