The trilogy (Garibaldi and the Thousand, Garibaldi and the Making of Italy are parts II and III) is probably the best account of that period because it is relatively unbiased due to the fact that it is seen from the outside by an accomplished English historian. Excellently researched and engagingly written, Trevelyan is clearly an admirer of Garibaldi, but does not overlook his failings. ( ) ei arvosteluja | lisää arvostelu

"Part one of a classic trilogy, written by one of England's greatest historians, that traces the life of Italian patriot Giuseppe Garibaldi--a man once described as "the only wholly admirable figure in history." Follow Garibaldi's life from his early education and training through his time in South America, his return to Italy, his defense of Rome against a French siege and his retreat to the republic of San Marino. ."one of my favorite books"--Julian Barnes, TLS" Kirjastojen kuvailuja ei löytynyt. |
