I liked the book club members and liked that they did outings and other things that matched with the books they read for the group. It seems like it would be a fun place to eat and to join the book group. I liked the themed tables and that they labeled their foods with literary names/titles. I did not guess the killer before it was revealed. Read To Death is the third book in the Read 'Em and Eat Mystery Series that features Sassy Cabot and Bridgy Mayfield. Sassy and Bridgy decide to take their book club on a day trip to the Edison and Ford Winter Estates. Driving the group is hired driver Oscar Frieland who entertains the ladies with his colorful stories. When the club returns from the excursion they have lunch and start their book discussion. Their meeting is cut short when Oscar is found dead in the van. Who could have wanted Oscar dead? When Birdgy becomes the police's number one suspect it's up to Sassy to clear her friend. The story was fast paced and well written. It grabs your interest from the very first page. Read to Death by Terrie Farley Moran is the third book in A Read ‘Em and Eat Mystery series. Sassy Cabot and Bridgy Mayfield are taking the Cool Reads Warm Climate Book Club on an outing to the Edison and Ford Winter Estates. The tour ties in with the book The Florida Life of Thomas Edison the group just finished reading. Everyone has a good time and they return to Red ‘Em and Eat in high spirits. Bridgy forgot her sunglasses in the van and goes out to retrieve them. Upon hearing a scream, Sassy runs out to investigate. Their van driver, Oscar Frieland is dead. The police are called and Lt. Frank Anthony shows up (assigned the case). Everyone is separated and held for questioning. Bridgy ends up the main suspect (she just went to get sunglasses) and that does not sit well with Sassy. Sassy is determined to find the culprit. Of course, Bridgy’s mother, Emelia decides to come visit and brings Sassy’s mother, Sage with her (this should be interesting). Can the group find out who killed Oscar before Bridgy ends up in the brig? Read to Death is nicely written and had a good pace which made for an easy to read book. The mystery was a bit of a letdown. Oscar made a comment (before he died), and I knew he would be the victim. A comment from someone else told me the name of the killer before the murder even occurred. I liked the setting of the novel in Fort Myers Beach. It was interesting to read about their trip to the Edison and Ford Winter Estates (I have always wanted to visit). I liked most of the characters in the book the one exception was Sage, Sassy’s mother. I thought she was too over-the-top and extremely annoying (and pushy instead of funny). I give Read to Death 3.5 out of 5 stars. I just felt that book was lacking. We get quite a bit of information about the city, the sites, and books. I wish the author had put a more work into the mystery as she did the research on the Edison and Ford Winter Estates. I found some information to be repeated a few times and there were way too many references (more than eight) to the Heap-a-Jeep (the main characters’ car). Will I read the next book in A Read ‘Em and Eat Mystery series? Of course. This could have just been an off book in an otherwise enjoyable series. I received a complimentary copy of the novel in exchange for an honest review. The comments and opinions expressed are strictly my own. Read To Death is the third book in the A Read 'Em And Eat Mystery series. Another wonderful and sunny visit to Ft. Myers Beach, FL and a stop at the Read”Em and Eat Cafe to visit with Sassy Cabot and Bridgy Mayfield. Time is getting close for the “snowbirds” to migrate to their Northern homes and Sassy and Bridgy are planning a trip to the Edison and Ford estates with the members of their Cool Reads/Warm Climate Book Club. Upon returning to Read “Em, everyone is scurrying around retrieving their souvenirs, when Bridgy realizes that she must have left her sunglasses in the van they had used. But what she finds is Oscar, their driver, dead, with scissors protruding from his neck. Of course, the police begin to look at Bridgy as a person of interest, especially after they learn that her first words after having found Oscar were: “He's dead. I am so sorry”. Sassy knows she has to do what it will take to prove Birdgy's innocence. This book has a very interesting and often times quite humorous subplot. To be at her daughter side in this time strife, Emelia, Bridgy's mother comes to town for support, in addition, Sage, Sassy's mom, also comes. Aunt Ophelia and Emelia have been like “water and oil” for a number of years. So, in the middle of searching for a killer, Sassy and Bridgy also need to entertain their mothers and try their best to make sure Ophelia and Emelia are apart as much as possible. Both of these ladies will provide the reader with a lot of chuckles, particularly Sage Most all of the characters from the previous books are back once again. Also Lt. Frank Anthony, the lead investigator is back, once again ruffling Sassy's feathers. As is Deputy Ryan Mantoni is back hoping that he will have enough time to enjoy a slice of Aunt Ophelia's buttermilk pie. Tony and Skully are also back to help Sassy deal with some of the local watermen. Delicious recipes are also included. I will definitely be watching for the next book in this fun series. näyttää 5/5 ei arvosteluja | lisää arvostelu
