Little Hedgehog, that kindhearted little erinaceous hero whose adventures began in the 2004 One Snowy Night, and continued in seven subsequent picture-books, returns in this ninth installment of his ongoing adventures. In this entry in the series, he wakes up one day to find that it has snowed in the night, and he must dig his home out. Becoming concerned for his friend Mouse, he next sets off for her house, only to get into a little trouble along the way, and required some help himself. Fortunately, his woodland friends are there to lend a hand...

Like many of the other books in author M. Christina Butler and illustrator Tina Macnaughton's series devoted to this darling little quilled critter, there is an interactive element here, in the form of Little Hedgehog's fuzzy red hat, which is made of some sort of felt-like material, and which provides a fun touch-and-feel element on each page. The story is sweet, like all the others, and emphasizes the importance of good friends and fellowship. The artwork is (again, like always) quite cute. Although the ninth in the series, One Snowy Rescue is only the eighth Little Hedgehog title that I have read thus far, as the previous installment, One Special Sleepover, hasn't yet been printed here in the states, and I have been unable to track down a copy. Although I wouldn't describe these books as outstanding picture-book fare, I do find them appealing - it probably helps that I love hedgehogs and porcupines! - and recommend them to those seeking fun, heartwarming picture-books that have an interactive element to them.
