Engaging and good illustrations. This book is about Prometheus who stole fire from King Zeus and shared it with his brother Epimetheus. Zeus was mad and decided to make life for people on the earth difficult. He sent Pandora down to marry Epimetheus and as a wedding present, gave them a box that they were not supposed to open. Pandora was very curious and one day she opened it and many trouble bugs flew out to bring trouble to the world. Pandora managed to keep the hope that was in the box with the bugs under the lid and so the people of the earth were still able to have hope. Critique (Genre): This book is a good example of a myth because the author retold the Greek myth of Pandora's Box. It followed the same storyline but did it in a way that was not too far out of a child's understanding and context. The characters and general setting follow the ancient myth that has been told throughout many generations. Media: Ink and Wash Genre: Myth Review: The author of this book retells a Greek mythology by using Pandora's box to explain why there troubled "bugs" or troubles in the world. It talks about Zeus and how he has to punish Epimetheus for stealing fire. It is definitely a Greek myth because of all the references to the beliefs that the Greek's came up with. Plot: The author of this story uses the plot to bring the audience in because it starts out with a simple wrong doing that causes Zeus to punish the people around Epimetheus, which then builds the climax to where Pandora opens the box and releases all the troubled "bugs." Media: Watercolor and Chinese ink, and then assembled as collage The is a great example of myth because it tells about the origin of hope in a way that keeps the integrity of the original Greek myth but appeals to children because it is presented through great characterization. It is a great example of characterization because the characters are developed through their dialogue and thoughts rather than simply being explained by a narrator or third person. ei arvosteluja | lisää arvostelu
Too curious for her own good, Pandora is given a beautiful box by the Greek god Zeus with specific instructions for it to never be opened, yet unable to follow the rules, Pandora does as she pleases and so sets free a flurry of bugs that wreak havoc in her happy home.
